Naruto Uzumaki’s immediate family is clear. His parents are Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki, and he and Hinata Hyuga are the parents of Boruto and Himawari. Official Naruto material does not provide a full genealogy beyond those links. Minato’s own parents, the wider Namikaze family and Kushina’s older ancestry are not established in the official sources, so they should stay open on any chart.

Naruto’s parents: Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki

The official Naruto site’s column on Minato, published July 21, 2023, identifies Naruto’s parents and gives his birth date as October 10. The story of his birth appears in Naruto volume 53, chapter 500. A second official column, on Kushina and published July 10, 2024, describes the couple welcoming their son and follows the aftermath in volume 53, chapters 501 to 504, where the parents’ messages to Naruto appear.

Naruto’s children: Boruto and Himawari

VIZ Media’s official page for Boruto: Naruto Next Generations identifies Boruto as Naruto’s son. The official Boruto Q&A on the Naruto site addresses Himawari, who carries both Uzumaki and Hyuga clan blood and lives in the Uzumaki household. Hinata Hyuga is Naruto’s wife and the mother of both children, which is the pairing the sequel series is built around.

The core family links at a glance

Person Relationship to Naruto What the official material establishes
Minato Namikaze Father Parent–child link, per the official Naruto site’s Minato column (July 21, 2023)
Kushina Uzumaki Mother Parent–child link, per the official Naruto site’s Kushina column (July 10, 2024)
Hinata Hyuga Wife; mother of Boruto and Himawari Spouse and parent–child links in the sequel series; Boruto and Himawari’s parentage is covered by the VIZ page and the official Boruto Q&A
Boruto Uzumaki Son Identified as Naruto’s son on VIZ Media’s official Boruto page
Himawari Uzumaki Daughter Uzumaki and Hyuga heritage, and residence in the Uzumaki home, per the official Boruto Q&A

Kushina, Uzushio and the Nine-Tails succession

Kushina came to Konoha from Uzushio-Gakure. She later became the Nine-Tails jinchūriki, succeeding Mito Uzumaki in that role, as the official Kushina column explains. This is a succession link between two holders of the same power, and it does not establish that Mito was Kushina’s mother or any other kind of ancestor. Shared Uzumaki identity and the Nine-Tails role are not the same thing as a parent–child relationship.

What the official material does not establish

Question Status in the official material
Who were Minato’s parents? Not stated. The official Naruto site names Minato as Naruto’s father but does not name his parents.
Is there a broader Namikaze family tree? Not stated in the official sources reviewed for this chart.
Was Mito Uzumaki Kushina’s mother? Not established. Mito appears only as the predecessor in the Nine-Tails role.
Who were Kushina’s direct ancestors? Not stated beyond her origin in Uzushio-Gakure.

Popular fan theories about these branches are not canon. A chart that presents them as settled fact is claiming more than the official material supports.

How to label a family chart

Readers often mix up different kinds of connection on family charts. Label each link with its type so that succession and clan identity do not look like ancestry:

  • Parent–child: direct descent, such as Minato and Kushina to Naruto, or Naruto and Hinata to Boruto and Himawari.
  • Spouse: marriage, such as Naruto and Hinata.
  • Succession: one holder of a role who passed it on, such as Mito Uzumaki to Kushina as Nine-Tails jinchūriki. It is not descent.
  • Clan affiliation: shared Uzumaki or Hyuga identity, such as Himawari’s heritage. It is not a direct ancestor link.
  • Not established: any relationship the official material leaves unnamed, such as Minato’s parents. Leave these branches open instead of filling them in.

Checking the primary story

If you want to verify each link against the source, read the manga in this order:

  1. Naruto volume 53, chapter 500, for Naruto’s birth.
  2. Naruto volume 53, chapters 501 to 504, for the immediate aftermath and his parents’ messages.
  3. Naruto volume 54, chapter 505, for the Minato retrospective.
  4. VIZ Media’s official Boruto: Naruto Next Generations page, for the sequel volumes and Boruto’s status as Naruto’s son.

Before buying a physical volume, check the edition’s contents and regional availability, since printings and releases vary by country. The official Naruto site’s columns cited here date from 2023 and 2024, so check the site for later material that may add to these family details.
