Mel Gibson directed Flight Risk, a Lionsgate suspense thriller set aboard a small aircraft over the Alaskan wilderness. An IMDb News item titled “‘Flight Risk’ Director Mel Gibson Breaks Down His Aviation Thriller in New Sneak Peek” covers a promotional clip, but the page could not be opened for this article, so its remarks from Gibson are not summarized or quoted here. What follows is what is established about the film itself: its premise, cast, production details and home-video editions.
What the sneak peek is, and what this article can confirm
The headline describes a sneak peek in which Gibson discusses the film. Nothing in the reporting available for this piece verifies what he says in that clip, what scenes it shows, or how he frames the story. The premise
According to ComingSoon’s February 18, 2025 behind-the-scenes report, Flight Risk follows a pilot who is transporting an Air Marshal and a fugitive being taken to trial. The flight crosses the Alaskan wilderness, and the synopsis makes clear that not everyone on board is who they appear to be. The screenplay is credited to Jared Rosenberg. The setup is a contained, two-person-plus-pilot dynamic in which trust is the main question, which is why the film was positioned as a suspense thriller rather than an action picture.
Cast and roles
- Mark Wahlberg plays a hitman, according to the ComingSoon report.
- Michelle Dockery and Topher Grace are named among the leads in the same report.
The accessible reporting names these three performers and their broad roles only. It does not give full character names for the other principals, so a complete cast list should be checked against the film’s official credits.

How the film was made
ComingSoon’s behind-the-scenes coverage reports that the film was shot in 22 days. That figure is a production detail for this one film, and the same coverage highlights the difficulty of sustaining tension in a movie confined largely to one setting. It is not a general benchmark for how long thrillers of this type take to shoot.
Where to watch or buy Flight Risk

Checking current availability
- Search the film’s title on the streaming and rental services you already use, and confirm the listing shows a current price or subscription tier.
- Check the official Lionsgate-associated site’s “Watch at Home” link, which points to the film’s current viewing options.
- For physical copies, compare the edition name, format and included extras on the retailer page against the table above.
Is the film worth seeing?
If you want a tightly staged aviation thriller with a question of trust at its center, Flight Risk is built around exactly that. If you were hoping the sneak peek would settle what Gibson intended, the available sources do not provide that answer, and the film itself is the more reliable place to form a view.
