Final Destination 7 is currently listed for May 12, 2028, according to Variety’s report of Warner Bros.’ CinemaCon announcement. That date could change, and the next film’s plot, cast and director are not established by the reporting available here. What the series should preserve is clearer: the premonition-driven suspense, paired with a fresh setting and characters whose choices shape what happens next.
What is confirmed about Final Destination 7?
Variety reported on April 15, 2026, that Warner Bros. announced a May 12, 2028 release date for Final Destination 7 at CinemaCon. The outlet also cautioned that release schedules can shift, so treat May 12, 2028 as the date currently reported—not a guarantee. Variety’s release-date report
The available reporting does not establish the seventh film’s story, cast or director. Moviefone reported in August 2025 that Lori Evans Taylor was attached to write the next installment, while noting that its story was then unknown. That is an earlier trade report, not a complete update on the project’s current production status. Moviefone’s franchise and sequel coverage
Why the next film has room to change course
Final Destination Bloodlines is the sixth released film in the series. Warner Bros.’ official synopsis centers on college student Stefanie, who returns home after a violent recurring nightmare and searches for someone who may help save her family. The official credits list Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky as directors; Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor wrote the screenplay, with Jon Watts, Busick and Taylor receiving story credit. The film opened in U.S. theaters May 16, 2025, with international release beginning May 14. Those are Bloodlines details, not announcements about the seventh film. The series’ flexible setup makes a new cast and environment a natural way to keep the premise alive. In comments Moviefone attributes to a Deadline interview, producer Craig Perry described the freedom of jumping across time and said the franchise can move around because it does not necessarily rely on continuing characters. That supports an anthology-like approach: viewers can meet a new group without having followed every prior protagonist. Moviefone’s report quoting Perry
What the franchise should do next
Build the catastrophe around a specific community
The premonition-and-survival mechanism is the series’ recognizable engine; the social world around it is where the seventh film can feel new. A workplace, institution or tightly connected community would give characters shared routines and pressures. Those details can make an opening catastrophe feel particular to this story rather than like a generic disaster followed by unrelated hazards.
Make choices change who is at risk
Suspense is strongest when an attempted intervention has a legible consequence. If characters’ decisions alter who is exposed and how, the chain of danger becomes something they are actively trying to understand—not merely a parade of elaborate accidents. The audience should be able to follow the cause and effect even when the outcome remains uncertain.
Give the survivors reasons to disagree
A fresh group needs more than a shared brush with death. Relationships, conflicting incentives and different levels of belief can create tension between set pieces. A character who hides information to protect someone, for example, can complicate the group’s effort to act together. The important point is that conflict should arise from who these people are, not just from their need to escape the next threat.

Make continuity a bonus, not an entry requirement
Bloodlines brought family and generational connections into the franchise’s setup. A seventh film could build on that broader mythology or reward longtime viewers with a meaningful connection to earlier events, while still making its central problem understandable on its own. That balance is a creative recommendation, not a reported plot direction.
How to judge a proposed story direction
When details do emerge, a useful pitch should work on four fronts:
Rank #4
- Media Format: Blu-ray
- Studio: Universal Studios
- Country of Origin: USA
- Number of discs: 1
- Freshness: Does the setting and its central catastrophe give this entry a distinct identity?
- Cause and effect: Can viewers understand how the characters’ actions change the danger?
- Character agency: Do relationships and decisions carry emotional weight between suspense sequences?
- Continuity and access: Does the story offer a payoff for returning viewers without requiring newcomers to memorize the earlier films?
What Bloodlines’ opening tells us—and what it doesn’t
The Associated Press reported on May 18, 2025, that Bloodlines had an estimated $51 million domestic opening and a $102 million global debut, opening in 3,523 locations. AP also reported a contemporaneous Rotten Tomatoes score of 93%. The ticket-sales figures are opening-weekend estimates, not lifetime totals, and the score reflects the outlet’s report at that time. These results give context for the sixth film’s launch; they do not establish what Warner Bros. will choose to do with the sequel. Associated Press opening-weekend report
