Yes, in April 2019 credible outlets reported that blurry footage from Avengers: Endgame, along with GIFs, screenshots and written descriptions, was circulating on Twitter and Reddit ahead of the film’s release, and The Guardian added YouTube and other platforms. The reporting confirms that the material circulated and that some of it was reported removed. It does not establish who posted it, how long the clips were, or how far they spread. This article separates those documented points from the open questions, using the coverage published at the time.
What the April 2019 reports said
The story broke over two days, and the three main reports differ in emphasis:
- April 16, 2019, Engadget (Kris Holt): reported several minutes of blurry leaked footage, along with GIFs, screenshots and descriptions, spreading across Twitter and Reddit.
- April 16, 2019, The Washington Post (Hamza Shaban): reported that fans were being warned to avoid social media to stay clear of spoilers, and said some posted clips and still images had been disabled after copyright claims.
- April 17, 2019, The Guardian: reported that the footage had been swiftly removed and named YouTube and other platforms alongside Twitter and Reddit.
Because these were contemporary accounts, they describe what the writers could see and were told at that moment. None of them is an official statement from Disney or Marvel that catalogues the material.

Removals and copyright claims
Two accounts describe removals, and they describe different things. The Guardian’s report that the footage was swiftly removed is a general statement. The Washington Post’s report is narrower: some posted clips and stills were disabled after copyright claims. Neither account shows that every copy disappeared, and neither identifies a platform-by-platform record of what was taken down and when.
Reddit’s 2019 transparency figures
Reddit’s Transparency Report 2019 reports platform-wide copyright data for that year: 124,257 pieces of content removed in response to 34,989 copyright notices, with the notices covering 170,684 pieces of content reviewed. These figures describe Reddit as a whole during 2019. They do not measure the Endgame material, and they cannot tell a reader how many Endgame posts were affected. The same report says Reddit acts on complete and valid copyright notices and may reject incomplete or invalid ones. That describes its general process in 2019, not how any particular Endgame post was handled.
The Russo brothers’ request to fans
Joe and Anthony Russo, the film’s co-directors, asked fans not to spoil the film in an open letter shared on April 16, 2019. The Guardian quoted the letter as saying:
“When you see Endgame in coming weeks, please don’t spoil it for others, the same way you wouldn’t want it spoiled for you.”
