‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ opened to $111,003,345 in the U.S. and Canada over its September 6–8, 2024 release weekend, playing in 4,575 theaters. That final three-day figure, listed by Box Office Mojo and The Numbers, sits above the $110 million estimate Boxoffice Pro reported on Sunday, September 8, 2024, and well above the $60–$80 million initial tracking range that outlet cited earlier in the week.
The opening weekend figures
Two numbers circulated for the opening, and they answer slightly different questions. The Sunday estimate was an early read published while the weekend was still being tallied. The final figure is the one that appears in the databases that track the weekend after reporting is complete.

“Domestic” in these reports means the U.S. and Canada theatrical market, the territory these box-office services use for their weekend charts. All figures above use that same territory and the same three-day weekend, so they can be compared directly.
Did it beat expectations?
Boxoffice Pro said yes. Its September 8, 2024 report described the $60–$80 million tracking range and noted that expectations rose as showtimes and social-media searches climbed in the days before release. The outlet characterized the $110 million estimate as lining up with the lower end of those revised expectations, which is the basis for its description of the opening as an overperformance. That analysis is Boxoffice Pro’s own reading of the numbers.

#1 Best Overall
The earlier range should not be read as a Warner Bros. forecast. The reporting attributes it to tracking and does not tie it to the studio. No authoritative studio statement about an opening projection was located for this article, so the comparison here is between independent tracking and the reported result.
The gap is real at every stage of the comparison. The final $111,003,345 exceeds the top of the tracking range by roughly $31 million and the Sunday estimate by about $1 million.

Where the opening ranks
Boxoffice Pro reported that the opening was the second-highest September opening at the time of its report, behind It (2017), which the outlet listed at $123.4 million. It also called the film the biggest PG-13 September debut to that point. Both are rankings within a specific category: September openings, and PG-13 September openings, measured against the historical comparison set Boxoffice Pro used on September 8, 2024. They are not all-time opening records, and they are not 2024 release-year rankings beyond what that outlet reported.
What the theater count tells you
A 4,575-theater opening is a wide release by any standard. Breadth matters for reading the number: a film that opens on that many screens is depending on mainstream attendance across the country rather than on a limited, city-by-city rollout, so a strong per-theater average is not the story here. The headline is the total gross from a wide release that exceeded the tracking range.

Cinemark’s results
Exhibitor Cinemark credited the film with a strong weekend in its own circuit. In its press release, “Cinemark Celebrates its All-Time Best September Domestic Box Office Weekend, Driven by Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” the company said the film drove its best September domestic box-office weekend of all time, along with concessions and premium-format records. Cinemark President and CEO Sean Gamble said:
“The juice was certainly loose as Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, married with vibrant consumer enthusiasm for shared, theatrical experiences, drove Cinemark’s best domestic September box office weekend of all time, while conjuring up concessions and premium format records.”

Who showed up
Boxoffice Pro’s 2024 year-end retrospective reported audience composition for the opening weekend: 24 percent of the audience was under 25, and 59 percent was women. The outlet linked the younger turnout in part to Jenna Ortega’s appeal, and the older turnout to the return of Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder. Those percentages are attributed audience research, and the causal explanation is the outlet’s analysis rather than an established finding.

Total run and home release
The opening was the start of a longer run. The Numbers, in a database figure accessed October 8, 2026, lists a final domestic gross of $294,100,435 and a worldwide gross of $451,980,048.
Boxoffice Pro’s year-end retrospective rounds those totals differently, citing $294.1 million domestic and $451.1 million worldwide. The domestic figures agree once rounded. The worldwide figures differ by about $0.9 million, which reflects different sources rather than a change in the film’s performance. Use one database’s figures consistently when comparing numbers.
The Numbers lists the Warner Home Video release date as October 8, 2024, and reports estimated DVD and Blu-ray sales. Those are estimates from that database, not figures reported by the studio.
How to compare these numbers
- Use the same weekend. The three-day figure for September 6–8, 2024 is the opening. Sunday estimates and later cumulative totals are different measures.
- Keep territories separate. Domestic means U.S. and Canada. Worldwide includes all markets and is a different measure.
- Attach the source. Boxoffice Pro’s rounded totals and The Numbers’ database totals are not interchangeable without a note.
- Separate tracking from results. The $60–$80 million range is an outside projection based on tracking. It is not a studio target, and the $111,003,345 final is the reported result.
Bottom line of the opening
The film opened to $111,003,345 domestically in 4,575 theaters, ahead of the early tracking range and at the top of the September opening charts that Boxoffice Pro cited on September 8, 2024. The Sunday estimate of $110 million was close to the final figure, and the final total was confirmed in the box-office databases.
