In 1923 Season 2, Harrison Ford plays Jacob Dutton and Helen Mirren plays Cara Dutton, the older generation at the center of the Dutton Ranch story. Brandon Sklenar plays Spencer Dutton and Julia Schlaepfer plays Alexandra, whose journeys drive two of the season’s main threads. Paramount’s Season 2 guide, dated April 7, 2025, lists eleven featured actor-character pairings. That list is a featured cast, not a complete roster, and Jennifer Carpenter, who joined Season 2, is not assigned a role in it.
Who plays whom in 1923 Season 2
The table below reproduces the featured pairings from Paramount+’s Season 2 guide (April 7, 2025). Where Paramount’s official series listing gives a fuller surname, that is noted in the character column.

The three threads that anchor the cast
Jacob and Cara Dutton
Paramount describes Season 2 this way: “In Season 2 of 1923, a cruel winter brings new challenges and unfinished business to Jacob (Ford) and Cara (Mirren) back at Dutton Ranch.” The season’s pressure is therefore centered on the older couple and the ranch itself, with the wider family and the story’s adversaries built around them.

#1 Best Overall
Spencer Dutton’s journey home
Paramount’s guide says Spencer sets out on a difficult journey home to save his family in Montana. Sklenar’s character is the one the guide ties to the family’s rescue, so readers following the Dutton family’s fortunes should track his storyline alongside Jacob and Cara’s.
Alexandra’s transatlantic journey
Alexandra, played by Schlaepfer, undertakes a transatlantic journey. Paramount’s official material confirms the trip but does not explain its purpose or where it leads, so this article does not speculate on it.

Jennifer Carpenter and what the list leaves out
Paramount’s Season 2 guide says Jennifer Carpenter is new to the cast in Season 2, but it does not name the character she plays. Because the guide presents a featured list rather than a full roster, recurring and guest performers may appear elsewhere in the cast information. No complete officially sourced roster was established for this article, so do not treat the eleven pairings above as the full Season 2 cast.
What the show is
Paramount officially frames 1923 as a Yellowstone origin story. Its Paramount+ series page describes it as: “This Yellowstone origin story introduces a generation of the Dutton family as they explore the early 20th century in the Mountain West.” Paramount Global Content classifies the series as a drama and western, according to its title page.
