The closest verified match to this headline is a May 23, 2024 sighting in London. E! reported that Zendaya and Tom Holland were seen holding hands as they left the Duke of York’s Theatre after the opening of Holland’s production of Romeo and Juliet. No original article using this exact headline has been established, so read it as the most likely event rather than a confirmed identification.
What the May 2024 report says
E! published its report on May 24, 2024, describing the pair as having been seen holding hands on what it called a “rare date.” The key details in that report are:
- Date of the sighting: May 23, 2024
- Location: the exit of the Duke of York’s Theatre in London
- Context: the night of the London opening of Holland’s Romeo and Juliet production
- Outlet and publication date: E!, May 24, 2024
The report does not include a direct quote from Zendaya or Holland about the outing. Other remarks in the story concern Holland’s performance and Zendaya’s support for the production; they are not comments on the hand-holding photos and should not be read that way.
Two other London sightings to keep separate
Zendaya and Holland were photographed together in London more than once, and two other reports are easy to confuse with the May 2024 story. The table below separates them by date, setting and content.

| Sighting | Date | Setting | What was reported | Source and publication date |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Theatre exit after Romeo and Juliet | May 23, 2024 | Duke of York’s Theatre, London | Holding hands as they left after the production’s opening | E!, May 24, 2024 |
| Grocery store outing | March 15, 2023 (the day before the article) | Waitrose, London | Photographed holding hands while wearing casual clothing | ELLE, March 16, 2023 |
| West London park walk | A Sunday in 2023; the calendar date is not stated | A park in West London | Walking together; Holland photographed kissing Zendaya’s hand | ELLE, October 10, 2023 |
The park walk is the only one of the three that involves a kiss on the hand rather than hand-holding, so it is the least likely match for a headline about holding hands. The Waitrose sighting is the only one set in a shop rather than a theatre or park.
How to tell which sighting a headline means
- Check the publication date and any dateline in the article. A 2024 date points to the theatre exit; a 2023 date points to Waitrose or the park.
- Check the setting. A theatre, stage door or the name of a production means the May 2024 event. A supermarket or park means one of the 2023 outings.
- Check whether the photos show a scheduled appearance. Getty’s editorial archive indexes dated London public appearances separately, which helps separate official photocalls from casual sightings. Use that dating to avoid assuming a street photo was a planned event.
What the photos do and do not establish
- Established: that the outlets named above reported the pair together in the settings and on the dates given, and that the May 2024 report places the sighting after the opening of Romeo and Juliet.
- Not established: the private reasons for either outing, or anything about the couple’s relationship. The sightings are from 2023 and 2024 and cannot show their status today.
- Not included: any statistic or verified quotation about the hand-holding photos. Coverage of this kind is observational, so the reader should rely on the reporting outlet’s wording rather than on added detail.
Because the headline does not carry a year or venue, the safest reading is the earliest-dated event that matches its wording. For this headline, that is the May 2024 theatre exit, with the caveat stated above.
