Zapuk Zupuk has a clear centre of gravity: Suraj Chavan’s distinctive screen presence. The Times of India’s review finds personality in his performance and the film’s fantastical touches, but says the romance gets crowded by familiar plot turns and leaves character arcs unresolved. That makes it a conditional recommendation: most appealing to viewers curious about Chavan’s move from social-media persona to film lead.
What is Zapuk Zupuk about?
Zapuk Zupuk is a Marathi comedy, drama and romance directed by Kedar Shinde. It opened in cinemas on April 25, 2025. The official ticketing synopsis follows Suraj, who falls for Narayani, a minister’s daughter, and sets off with his quirky friends on a journey involving love, friendship and unexpected magic. BookMyShow lists the runtime as 2 hours 24 minutes and the classification as UA16+.
The Times of India review describes Suraj as a childish man-child with an imaginary superhero friend, Surajveer. In that account, Suraj’s actions steer Narayani toward her childhood crush before the story develops into a clash with another suitor. This is the reviewer’s description of the plot, rather than the full official synopsis.
Does Suraj Chavan carry the film?
For the Times of India, Chavan is the reason the film remains watchable: his recognisable social-media persona overlaps with the character in a way the reviewer considers an advantage. A short excerpt attributed to Scroll.in critic Nandini Ramnath, published April 25, 2025 and surfaced on Rotten Tomatoes, similarly singles out his presence: “The only relief from the predictable and overstretched storytelling is offered by Suraj’s aching authenticity and his fantastical moments.”
That praise also points to the film’s limitation. The story’s success depends heavily on whether a viewer responds to Chavan’s screen persona; the available reviews do not suggest that the romantic plot is strong enough to compensate for viewers who do not.
How well do the story and craft work?
The Times of India gave Zapuk Zupuk 3.0/5. Its review praises the production quality, visual effects, fight sequences, cinematography, editing, music and Shinde’s direction. Its main reservation is the screenplay: it calls the story predictable and says that too many plot points are packed in, leaving character arcs without proper resolution.
The result, in that review’s assessment, is a film with more visual and performance personality than narrative discipline. The fantasy elements and action can add flavour, but they do not fix the romance’s crowded progression. The official synopsis foregrounds love and friendship; the review describes a plot that also turns toward rivalry and conflict. That tonal mix may suit viewers who enjoy melodrama, but it is not the same as a tightly focused love story.
What do the ratings say?
Available scores offer different snapshots, not a single verdict. BookMyShow displayed 8.6/10 from 916 votes when accessed in 2026. The Times of India page displayed a 3.2/5 user rating at the same access point, separately from its critic score of 3.0/5. These are platform-specific user ratings with different scales and samples; they should not be treated as directly comparable measurements. Rotten Tomatoes displayed one critic review and no Popcornmeter ratings when accessed, which is too little to establish a critical consensus.

Is Zapuk Zupuk worth watching?
Based on the available reviews, it is worth considering if you want to see how Chavan’s familiar persona translates to a theatrical lead role, or if fantasy, action and melodrama are enough to keep you engaged through a predictable romance. Viewers looking for an original, neatly resolved love story may be less satisfied, given the Times of India’s criticism of the crowded plot and unfinished character arcs. This is a critic-informed recommendation, not a claim of consensus or a firsthand viewing report.
