Zarine Khan, the wife of actor-filmmaker Sanjay Khan and the mother of actor Sussanne Khan, died in Mumbai in November 2025 at the age of 81. Most reports give November 7, 2025 as the date of death, and some outlets attribute it to cardiac arrest or a heart attack. Other accounts describe age-related issues or a prolonged illness, and none of the reporting cites a family statement or medical document that names a specific cause. The details below separate what the coverage agrees on from what it does not.
What the reports agree on
Across the coverage, the core facts are consistent: Zarine Khan died in Mumbai, she was 81, and the death was reported in November 2025. The Indian Express and India Today both use the age of 81. The Indian Express reports her death on November 7, and that date is the one most accounts use. Her family relationships are also consistent across outlets, which makes the identity of the person being reported on clear.

The cause of death: what is and is not established
Reporting on the cause of death uses two different framings, and they should be attributed separately rather than merged into one medical account.
Cardiac arrest and heart attack
The Indian Express reports cardiac arrest as the cause. India Today’s headline also says cardiac arrest. Hindustan Times, publishing on November 8, 2025, describes a heart attack in the early hours of Friday, November 7, and a prolonged illness. Hindustan Times attributes this to an unnamed source rather than to an official medical statement, so it should be read as a press account, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Age-related issues and prolonged illness
The body text of India Today says she had been unwell due to age-related issues. That framing is broader than a specific cardiac event and does not name a diagnosis. Readers should treat it as a description of her general condition in the reporting, not a separate medical finding.
In short, the reporting supports the statement that she died after a period of illness, and that cardiac arrest or a heart attack was reported as the immediate cause. It does not establish a verified medical cause.

Reconciling the date
Most outlets, including The Indian Express, place the death on November 7, 2025, a Friday. India Today’s article text, however, says she died at her Mumbai residence on Thursday, November 6. Because the India Today headline and the article body differ from each other, and because other outlets say November 7, November 7 is the more widely reported date. If precision matters for a citation, record both dates and attribute each one to its source.
Timeline of reporting
| Date (2025) | Outlet | What it reports |
|---|---|---|
| November 6 (Thursday) | India Today, article text | Died at her Mumbai residence after being unwell due to age-related issues |
| November 7 (Friday) | The Indian Express | Death on this date; cardiac arrest reported as the cause |
| November 7 (Friday) | India Today, headline | Headline attributes the death to cardiac arrest |
| November 8 (Saturday) | Hindustan Times | Heart attack in the early hours of Friday, with a prolonged illness; cites an unnamed source, not an official medical statement |
| November 10 (Monday) | The Indian Express | Prayer meeting held in Mumbai; says she was cremated on the day she died |
Who Zarine Khan was
The Indian Express describes Zarine Khan as an interior designer, model, and author. She appeared in Hindi films, including Tere Ghar Ke Saamne and Ek Phool Do Mali. She was the author of Family Secrets: The Khan Family Cookbook. She was married to Sanjay Khan, and the couple had four children: Sussanne Khan, Zayed Khan, Farah Ali Khan, and Simone Arora.

India Today reports the family’s request for privacy in a single sentence: “The Khan family has requested privacy as they grieve.” The Indian Express reports a Mumbai prayer meeting on November 10, 2025, but the coverage does not include any further statement from the family about the cause or circumstances of her death.
If a family statement, hospital record, or official medical account is released later, it would be the first primary source to settle the cause and date. Until then, the accurate version is that she died in November 2025, at 81, and that the immediate cause was reported as cardiac arrest or a heart attack by some outlets, with a broader account of age-related illness in others.
Rank #4
Readers searching for a specific medical cause should note that none of the reports identify a named doctor, a hospital, or a death certificate.
