Nico Minoru is a Runaways character in Marvel Comics. In the animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, she is one of Peter Parker’s friends, voiced by Grace Song. The two versions are not the same continuity. The show’s showrunner has said it sits “one universe over” from the main Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline, so the animated Nico is best read as her own take on the character rather than a copy of the comics version.

Marvel’s editorial article “Runaways: On the Move” discusses the Runaways comic series and names Nico among its characters. That article is the basis for describing Nico as a Runaways-associated comic character. It is the right starting point if you want her comics background, because the animated series does not present itself as an adaptation of the Runaways storyline.
If you are new to the character, read the Runaways comics themselves rather than inferring her history from the animated show. The comics, not the cartoon, are where her comics identity lives.

Disney’s behind-the-scenes article for the series, published February 5, 2025, identifies Nico Minoru as one of Peter Parker’s friends and names Grace Song as her voice actor. The article frames the show around Peter’s high-school life and the people around him. In that framing, Nico belongs to Peter’s school friend group. She is not presented as a transplanted Runaways team member.

Because the series is built around that friend group, the animated Nico should be judged by her role in Peter’s world. Readers who expect the comics team dynamic to appear on screen in the same form may be disappointed.
Why the two versions are separate
Jeff Trammell, the show’s head writer, executive producer, and showrunner, addressed continuity in Disney’s February 5, 2025 article. He said: “our show is adjacent to the main Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline, so it’s a kind of perfect mixture of being one universe over.”

That statement is the key to reading any Nico adaptation in this series. It places the show outside the main MCU timeline, and it means comics material and live-action material should not be assumed to carry over automatically. The live-action Hulu Runaways series is a separate adaptation, and the animated show does not confirm that its plot details apply to the animated Nico.

These are differences of adaptation and continuity, not contradictions. Both versions can be true of the character at once because they exist in separate settings.

The companion comic
ComicBook.com reported on January 29, 2025 that Marvel was publishing a five-issue prequel comic tied to Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, written by Christos Gage with art by Eric Gapstur. It is a companion to the show, not a record of Nico’s wider comics history. Do not treat it as the source for her Runaways background; that connection comes from Marvel’s Runaways coverage.

If you want to read Nico’s comics background, look for a collected edition of the Runaways comics. Before choosing one, check its volume range and whether it is currently in stock, because the available collections and their contents change over time.
- Check the Disney+ listing for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man in your territory.
- Confirm which Runaways collection covers the stories you want before buying.
- Treat the five-issue prequel as a companion to the show, not as Runaways history.
