A YouTube Music Community Product Expert described alternate versions being replaced with official versions, but that community reply is not an official technical explanation. Google’s playlist instructions do not document a setting that prevents substitutions, and the available sources establish no guaranteed fix.
What may be happening when a remix becomes the original
Start by checking the playlist entry itself: compare its title, artist, and version with the track you meant to add. The entry may be a remix, cover, clean edit, video version, or another release. Listener reports use phrases such as “different version/remix” and “wrong song,” but they do not establish that every mismatch has the same cause.
In an October 2023 community thread about adding remixes without them changing to the original, YouTube Music Community Product Expert Zanzibar Diamond wrote, “You are experiencing one of the new "features" of YouTube Music, which replaces alternate versions of songs with the official versions.” This is community guidance, not a public Google specification or confirmation that every affected playlist is being changed by one particular mechanism. A separate report described a video version of a remix appearing as the original. Other reports involve a cover being replaced or a different song appearing, sometimes with a different duration.
These reports show that the symptom is real, but they do not show how common it is, identify one technical root cause, or establish an account-, region-, or device-specific rule.

What to try if the wrong version is in your playlist
- Confirm the mismatch. Open the playlist and compare the entry’s title, artist, and version with the intended remix or alternate recording.
- Try basic app troubleshooting if YouTube Music seems to be glitching. Google recommends closing and reopening the app and restarting the device as general troubleshooting steps. These may help with an app issue, but Google does not identify them as a fix for track-version substitutions.
- Remove the unwanted entry and add the intended listing again. Google documents adding songs from the current song, Library, Home, Search, or the playlist queue, and removing songs through playlist editing. If the intended version is still available, adding that listing again is a reasonable check—not a proven way to keep it from changing later. The reviewed guidance does not support reinstalling the app, changing subscriptions, or switching to another music service as a reliable remedy. It also does not document a toggle for preserving a chosen remix or alternate version.
How to report a playlist version changing
If the problem continues, send feedback from YouTube Music. Community replies have directed affected listeners to the app’s profile menu and Help and feedback; one also pointed to Contact us for account-specific help. Labels and menu locations can change. Google’s general troubleshooting guidance covers basic app and playback problems, but does not explain the matching behavior.

Include enough detail for someone to understand the mismatch:
- The playlist link
- The exact title, artist, and version you intended to add
- The title, artist, and version that appeared instead
- Your device and platform, plus the steps that reproduce the issue
