MrBeast reportedly gained about 9.2 million YouTube subscribers in November 2021, a figure contemporary coverage described as a monthly record. That is a reported one-month gain—not his total subscriber count—and the available sources do not establish that it remains the all-time record today.
What the 9.2 million figure means
Tech Times reported that MrBeast added about 9.2 million subscribers during November 2021; NextShark described the gain as over 9.2 million. The small wording difference is a reason to keep the number rounded and attributed rather than treat it as an exact count. Neither report, as represented in the available evidence, settles the measurement method or defines the comparison set behind “record.”
So the careful version of the headline is historical: contemporary outlets called MrBeast’s November 2021 gain a record at the time. It should not be read as a verified current ranking across every YouTube channel or calendar month. Tech Times, November 30, 2021; NextShark, December 1, 2021.
Why the Squid Game video became part of the story
On November 24, 2021, MrBeast published $456,000 Squid Game In Real Life!, a recreation of games from Netflix’s Squid Game. The release landed during the same month as the reported subscriber surge, making the video an important part of the moment’s context. The timing alone does not show that this single upload caused all of the month’s growth.

NextShark reported that the production cost more than $3.5 million, involved 456 contestants, and awarded a $456,000 prize. Those are reported production figures, not independently audited accounts. A Los Angeles Times report published December 9, 2021, gave the video’s view count as 158.2 million at that time; that is a dated snapshot, not a current total. How the 2021 milestone differs from later subscriber records
A monthly gain and a channel’s overall subscriber milestones describe different things. YouTube’s June 12, 2026 retrospective dated MrBeast’s rise to most-subscribed individual creator to November 2022, and his rise to most-subscribed channel to June 2024. It also reported that he had reached 500 million subscribers by 2026. Those later milestones do not verify the claim that his November 2021 monthly gain remains an all-time record.

YouTube separately named MrBeast its top US creator for 2021 in its year-end list. That annual creator ranking is another distinct accolade, not evidence for the monthly-gain comparison. YouTube Blog, June 12, 2026; YouTube Blog, 2021 year-end creator list.
In its 2026 retrospective, Michelle Beaver, YouTube’s Top Creators Lead, called the Squid Game video “a defining moment for the channel.” YouTube described it then as approaching 1 billion views; that characterization is tied to the post’s June 12, 2026 publication date, not a live view count.
