Usually not. Disney+ generally does not allow a subscription to be shared outside the subscriber’s Household, and whether a particular case draws any consequence is up to Disney, not a fixed rule. A friend who lives in another home has two legitimate routes: their own subscription, or an Extra Member add-on where it is offered. The sections below explain what the terms say, what Disney can do, and how to check the details that vary by country and plan.
What the Household rule actually says
The Disney+ Subscriber Agreement states: “Unless otherwise permitted by your Service Tier, you may not share your subscription outside of your household.” The agreement defines Household as “the collection of devices associated with your primary personal residence that are used by the individuals who reside therein.”
In practical terms, the test is where the devices sit and who lives there. A sibling in the same house, a partner who lives with you, or a family member who uses a TV in your primary residence fits inside the Household. A college roommate in another city, a friend across town with their own address, or a relative in a second home does not, unless a plan or add-on specifically permits it.
What Disney can do if it finds outside-Household use
Disney reserves the right to analyze how an account is used. If it determines that the agreement has been violated, it may limit or terminate access, along with other remedies the agreement allows. The agreement gives Disney that discretion. It does not promise that every shared login is blocked immediately, and it does not describe a fixed sequence of warnings. A reader should treat “without repercussions” as an assumption the terms do not support: the outcome depends on what Disney finds and decides.

The two routes a friend outside the Household can use
The official Help Center identifies two paths. The Walt Disney Company’s September 25, 2024 paid-sharing explainer puts it this way: “They will need to sign up and pay for their own subscription or be added as an Extra Member to your account for an additional monthly fee to continue enjoying Disney+.”
Option 1: The friend signs up for their own subscription
This is the only route that gives the friend an independent account, with their own profiles, viewing history and billing. It is also the route with no eligibility conditions tied to your account. The sources reviewed do not state a price for a standalone subscription in any market, so check the current plan list in the Disney+ app or the regional Help Center before deciding.

Option 2: Add the friend as an Extra Member
Extra Member is an add-on that lets one person outside your Household use your subscription. Disney says one Extra Member slot is available per subscription. Eligibility is set regionally. The US version of the Extra Member Help Center page, dated May 4, 2026, lists these conditions:
- The Extra Member must be at least 18 years old.
- The Extra Member must live in the same country or region as the account holder.
- The Extra Member must not have an active Disney+, Hulu, or ESPN subscription.
- Some plan types are excluded.
Those conditions were taken from search-result text for that page, so confirm them on the live Help Center page for your country before you invite anyone.

- Double check if the URL/website is genuine before entering card details online. Do not provide any gift card details (example: claim code) to someone you do not know or trust. There are a variety of scams in which fraudsters try to trick others into paying with gift cards.
- If you believe that your Card has been lost or stolen, notify Mastercard immediately by calling 1-833-791-7288. You will be asked to provide the Gift Card number and other identifying information.
- Use your Mastercard Gift Card in the U.S. everywhere Mastercard debit cards are accepted, including online. Your Amazon.com Balance cannot be used to purchase Mastercard gift cards.

The Extra Member prices come from The Walt Disney Company’s explainer, which was published September 25, 2024 and updated December 11, 2024. Those figures are historical US examples. Disney directs users to the regional Help Center for current pricing, plan features and eligibility, and prices in your market may differ.
Traveling with your own account
Travel use is treated differently from a friend’s ongoing access. According to the 2024 explainer, the account holder or a Household member can watch on supported devices while away from home. If a TV is reported as outside the Household, Disney describes two ways to resolve it:

Both processes require a one-time code sent to the account email address. Neither one authorizes a friend in another home to use the account routinely.
