Marshals has added three familiar Yellowstone faces: Gil Birmingham, Brecken Merrill and Mo Brings Plenty will reprise Thomas Rainwater, Tate Dutton and Mo as series regulars. The character missing from this casting announcement is Monica Dutton, Kayce’s wife and Tate’s mother. That omission describes the announced group; it does not establish that Monica is permanently excluded from the series.
Which Yellowstone stars are joining Marshals?
The announcement names three actors from Yellowstone, each returning as a series regular:
| Actor | Returning character |
|---|---|
| Gil Birmingham | Thomas Rainwater |
| Brecken Merrill | Tate Dutton |
| Mo Brings Plenty | Mo |
The casting report identifies the three additions and notes Monica’s absence from that announcement. CBR’s casting report covers the announcement; CBS’s official series page provides the show’s current cast and season information.
Is Monica Dutton in Marshals?
Monica, played in Yellowstone by Kelsey Asbille, was not named among these three series-regular additions. The available announcement therefore confirms only that she was left out of this particular cast group. It does not say she has been written out, rule out a later casting announcement, or establish whether she will appear in the season.

How the Yellowstone characters fit the new series
Marshals follows Kayce Dutton after he leaves the Yellowstone Ranch and joins an elite U.S. Marshals unit in Montana. CBS frames the premise around Kayce’s cowboy and Navy SEAL experience. Luke Grimes leads as Kayce, alongside Logan Marshall-Green as Pete Calvin, Arielle Kebbel as Belle Skinner, Ash Santos as Andrea Cruz and Tatanka Means as Miles Kittle. The series brings Kayce’s family and Broken Rock ties—Tate, Rainwater and Mo—into a new ensemble rather than simply continuing the ranch storyline. See the Paramount+ cast guide for franchise character context.
Season 2’s stated story threads
In CBS’s current season 2 synopsis, Kayce is trying to create a stable home life for himself and Tate while violence persists around them. The same official summary says Cal is balancing cancer treatment with leadership, Andrea is sharing authority, and Rainwater faces a challenge from younger Native leaders. These are the season threads CBS has publicly described; the synopsis does not say whether Monica appears.
