Cher is not hosting Saturday Night Live in any episode announced so far. NBCUniversal’s September 9, 2026 announcement of Season 52 lists four hosts for its first announced episodes, and Cher is not among them. Her documented appearances on the show are as a musical guest in 1987 and 2025, plus a 1992 Weekend Update cameo. Peacock’s episode records show no hosting credit for her.
Did Cher ever host SNL?
Not according to the records available for this article. Her 1987 appearance was as the musical guest, and the same is true of her 2025 return. The show’s official streaming guide, published by Peacock, describes both episodes that way, and it does not list a hosting turn for her in the years between.

Cher’s SNL appearances, in order
Peacock’s episode guide is the most precise chronology available, and it corrects a point in some earlier coverage. Associated Press reported in November 2025 that Cher had not been on the SNL stage since 1987. Peacock’s listing of a 1992 Weekend Update cameo shows that statement is too absolute.
| Date | Role | What the record shows | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| November 21, 1987 | Musical guest | Her first SNL appearance. Peacock names two songs she performed: “We All Sleep Alone” and “I Found Someone.” | Peacock SNL episode guide |
| September 26, 1992 | Weekend Update cameo | A cameo appearance, not a musical performance, as recorded by Peacock. Peacock does not list songs for this date. | Peacock SNL episode guide |
| December 20, 2025 | Musical guest (Ariana Grande hosted) | Peacock describes this as her return to the SNL stage as musical guest for the first time in 38 years. The interval refers to her return as a musical guest, not to her first SNL appearance overall. | Peacock SNL Season 51 guide; Associated Press, November 17, 2025 |

There is no official announcement that she is. NBCUniversal’s September 9, 2026 Season 52 announcement names Jalen Brunson, Dakota Johnson, Shane Gillis, and Inde Navarrette as hosts for the first announced episodes. Cher is not listed. That announcement covers only the episodes it names, so it does not rule out a later booking. As of the most recent official announcement cited here, a Cher hosting appearance remains unconfirmed.
Is the “masterclass” description supported?
The phrase is opinion, and the sources cited here do not support it as established fact. They establish when Cher appeared and which songs Peacock lists. They do not establish how the 1987 performance was received, what comic or musical choices made it notable, or whether it influenced later late-night television. No audience, ratings, or critical-reception figures specific to that episode were found. General statistics about SNL are not evidence for this particular appearance.

- Check whether your subscription plan includes it, since plan terms can change.
If the November 1987 episode is not listed, the reviewed sources do not say whether it is available elsewhere.
