What Ryder said about their texts
In an appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Ryder said she and Reeves still use the affectionate titles in messages. As reported by Tom Murray in The Independent on 4 September 2024, Ryder described sending Reeves a birthday greeting: “So like on his birthday I go: ‘Happy birthday, my husband,’”

She then recounted his reply: “And then he’s like, ‘Hey, my wife, I love you. KR 57.’ Like on each birthday he’s like KR 57 or whatever his age is. He’s always done that.” The number is part of Ryder’s anecdote about the sign-off Reeves uses; it should not be read as a verified current age.
Why they use those names
The joke refers to the wedding scene in Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Coppola’s 1992 film starring Ryder and Reeves. Ryder has said real Romanian priests took part in the scene, and has joked that the ceremony meant she and Reeves were married.

Reeves made a similarly playful remark in a 2021 interview with Esquire, as quoted by The Independent: “We did a whole take of a marriage ceremony with real priests. Winona says we are. Coppola says we are. So I guess we’re married under the eyes of God.” Coppola also commented on the story in 2018, telling The Guardian: “In a sense when we were all done, we realized that Keanu and Winona really are married as a result of this scene and this ceremony.”
