What the Grammys producer said before the show
In the days before the ceremony, speculation grew that Swift would show up or take the stage. India Today reported on Jan. 29, 2026 that Winston said the rumor began with a HITS item that listed Swift as a possible performer, and that other outlets then repeated it. E! News and ELLE also carried his remarks.
ELLE quoted Winston’s interview with HITS:
“The only reason people think Taylor might be performing or coming is because Hits decided to print it this week and put it in their Hits List, and it was picked up globally. But Hits just totally made that up.” He added: “And now I am getting asked about it by you, as if it’s a real thing, when it was made up in your office! That really is a full-circle rumor!”

Read the quote as Winston’s account of where the claim came from. It is his characterization of the HITS report, not independent evidence of how that outlet reported or edited the item. What it does establish is that the producer rejected the rumor on the record before the show.

The Recording Academy announced the 2026 presenters and performers in advance, and it named Ben Winston, Raj Kapoor, Jesse Collins, and Trevor Noah as executive producers. Why Swift had no 2026 nominations
