As of October 8, 2026, FX has not announced a renewal, and no official source reviewed for this piece gives a subject, cast, episode count, or release date for a second installment. The accurate status is “unconfirmed,” not renewed, cancelled, or scheduled.
Where the renewal question stands
FX’s official series page describes the show as the first installment in Ryan Murphy’s Love Story anthology and labels the release “FULL SEASON.” That wording frames the current run as a complete season of one story, not as the opening of a confirmed multi-season run. Disney’s premiere announcement calls it a nine-episode limited series. Neither source mentions a second installment. FX Networks’ official series page and the Disney+ UK press announcement dated January 26, 2026 are the primary references for this status.

What the first installment covers
- Subject: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette. Disney describes the series as a dramatization of their courtship and marriage.
- Format: A limited series in nine episodes. Disney’s originally announced schedule, stated in its February 2, 2026 trailer announcement, said the first three episodes would be available at launch with new episodes following weekly. That is the announced plan, not a statement of current availability in every territory.
- Performance claim: FX’s page calls the series its “Most Watched Limited Series Ever on Disney+ and Hulu.” This is FX’s own characterization. The page gives no viewing figure, so no number should be attached to it.
- Source material: Disney names Elizabeth Beller’s Once Upon a Time: The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy as the book that inspired the series. It is the most direct reading for viewers who want the real history behind the drama.
What an anthology second installment could look like
Because the first season is framed as an anthology installment, a future season could in principle tell a different couple’s story rather than continue this one. The two paths are different enough to keep apart when reading any news about the show.
| Path | What it would mean | Status in official material |
|---|---|---|
| Another anthology story about different people | A new installment with a new subject, cast, and creative focus, under the same anthology label | Anthology framing is official; no new subject is confirmed |
| Direct continuation of the Kennedy Jr. and Bessette story | Would extend the same couple’s story beyond the first installment | No official source reviewed describes a continuation |
Official material supports the anthology structure but does not say which path FX would choose, if either.

What has been said about a next project
A Marie Claire article by Jessica Derschowitz, published March 27, 2026, reported that no renewal had been announced as of that date. It also quoted creator Connor Hines, asked by Vanity Fair about a possible next project, saying: “Maybe Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. They have the right intensity.”
That remark is a reported hypothetical about a possible subject. It is not a renewal, a production announcement, or an FX decision. Because the Marie Claire piece is more than six months old as of this update, its “no renewal yet” statement describes the situation in March 2026, not today. Check current FX and Disney announcements for anything newer.

Release timing, cast, and production
No release window, production start, season-two cast, or episode count has been confirmed. Any date estimate would be speculation. Readers who want more background on the current season can use FX’s official podcast page, which lists interviews with:
- Sarah Pidgeon and Paul Anthony Kelly
- Naomi Watts and Connor Hines
- Production designer Alex DiGerlando
- Costume designer Rudy Mance
- Grace Gummer
How to tell whether a season two has been announced
- Open the FX series page and check whether it still reads as a single “FULL SEASON” or lists a new installment.
- Check the Disney+ UK press news page for any dated renewal or new-installment announcement.
- Treat fan speculation, cast-wish interviews, and reported hypotheticals as unconfirmed until one of these official pages or a dated announcement confirms them.
If a renewal is announced, it will appear on these official pages first. Until then, the verified position is that season two has not been confirmed.
