Will & Harper is a 2024 documentary about comedian and actor Will Ferrell and his longtime friend Harper Steele taking a cross-country road trip after Steele comes out as a trans woman. Directed by Josh Greenbaum, the film follows their conversations as they reconnect and adjust to a new stage in their friendship.
What is Will & Harper about?
The film follows Ferrell and Steele on a road trip across the United States. Steele had loved traveling through the country’s heartland, but had not returned to the open road since coming out. The journey gives the friends time and space to talk about change, their relationship, and what lies ahead.
Netflix describes the film as a portrait of friendship, transition, and America. It is centered on the two friends and their open conversations, rather than serving as a general guide to transition. Director Josh Greenbaum called it “an incredibly personal story about two close friends and their open and honest dialogue and journey through change.” Netflix interview
Netflix says the trip lasted nearly three weeks. TIME reported a route between New York and Los Angeles, with stops including Iowa, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Texas; those reported stops are not a complete itinerary. TIME’s interview
