Yes. Emily moves to Rome at the start of Emily in Paris Season 5 to lead Agence Grateau’s new office—but it is not a permanent break with Paris. The season follows her between the two cities and brings her back to Paris by the finale.
Why Emily went to Rome
At the start of Season 5, Emily takes charge of Agence Grateau’s new Rome office and begins a relationship with Marcello Muratori. The move gives her a real work base in Italy, rather than simply making Rome a brief visit.

Before the season premiered, series creator Darren Star described it as “a tale of two cities: Rome and Paris.” He also explained that Emily would have “a presence in Rome” but that this “doesn’t mean she’s not going to be in Paris,” in comments quoted by Netflix Tudum on October 22, 2025. His plan was to expand the story across both cities, not write Paris out of it.
What happens to the Rome move by the finale
Spoilers for the Season 5 ending: Emily’s Rome storyline does not last as a permanent relocation. After Agence Grateau loses Italian clients and Emily’s relationship with Marcello falls apart, she returns to Paris. They part because their futures do not align.

Gabriel, meanwhile, has taken a private-chef job on a yacht. In the final scene, he sends Emily a postcard inviting her to join him in Greece. The season does not reveal whether she accepts. Netflix’s January 6, 2026 finale explainer confirms both Emily’s return to Paris and the unresolved invitation.
Does Emily in Paris continue after Season 5?
Yes, but the next season is the last. Netflix announced Season 6 as the show’s final chapter and set its release for December 24, 2026. The announced itinerary includes Paris, Greece, and Monaco—not Rome—according to Netflix Tudum’s September 18, 2026 update. That announcement does not resolve Emily’s response to Gabriel’s postcard.

The Italian setting also shaped the season’s wardrobe. Netflix reports that costume designer Marylin Fitoussi, who worked on all five seasons, published Emily in Paris: The Fashion Guide, including discussion of how Italy influenced Emily’s style. The feature names looks involving a Diane von Furstenberg jumpsuit, a Huishan Zhang dress and coat, Aquazzura heels, and a Mary Katrantzou floral dress.
