The label’s stated reason: artistic direction
The first explanation came in BELIFT LAB’s March 10, 2026 notice. It framed the decision around Heeseung’s identity as an artist: “it became clear that HEESEUNG has his own distinct musical vision and we have decided to respect it.” The notice also referred to discussions about ENHYPEN’s future and the members’ individual goals. It described the decision as the result of “extensive deliberation” and acknowledged that fans could have mixed reactions. It did not describe those private discussions in detail, so “artistic direction” is the label’s characterization rather than a documented account of what was said in meetings.
The schedule rationale added on March 15
The explanation that answers the question most readers actually ask, why he could not pursue solo projects while staying in the group, came in a follow-up. On March 15, 2026, BELIFT LAB reaffirmed that Heeseung would not return. Soompi reported, citing BELIFT LAB and The Korea Herald, that the agency tied the decision to ENHYPEN’s “extremely demanding” schedule and said “pursuing a full solo career outside the group would be the best arrangement for all parties involved.”

Who proposed the change
Two accounts describe the decision as joint, but they differ in emphasis. HYBE told CNA Lifestyle: “The decision was made through mutual discussion, with the goal of supporting both the group’s direction and Heeseung’s individual aspirations.” Heeseung’s handwritten message, also reported by CNA, said he had considered the situation and was following the direction the company proposed.

“Shocking” describes how fans reacted. CNA reported that the news surprised them, and that Heeseung had appeared at official events in the days before the announcement. Heeseung’s handwritten message thanked members and fans for the years together, acknowledged their questions and concern, and said he would prepare for his next meeting with them.
