As of 8 October 2026, no remake of the 2004 action RPG Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines has been announced. Paradox Interactive, which co-published the 2025 sequel Bloodlines 2, has said that making this kind of game is not part of its strategic direction, and the commercial outcome of Bloodlines 2 gives it a concrete reason to be cautious about large projects in the same family. A Paradox-led remake therefore looks unlikely in the near term. That is not the same as saying one is impossible. Paradox’s most direct comments concerned a hypothetical third game, not the original, and the rights needed to remake or re-release the 2004 game have not been publicly spelled out.
What is confirmed as of October 2026
- No remake, remaster or re-release of the 2004 game has been announced in official material available up to 2026-10-08.
- Paradox’s executive comments about the franchise’s future concern a possible third Bloodlines game, not the original.
- White Wolf is the official licensing and publishing entity for World of Darkness transmedia properties, according to Paradox’s 2025 announcement.
Absence of an announcement is not proof that a remake is ruled out. It does mean that nobody with the authority to make one has yet said so.
What Paradox has said about another Bloodlines game
In an interview with PC Gamer published on 8 October 2024, Paradox deputy CEO Mattias Lilja described a possible Bloodlines 3 as a project that another party would make under license. He said: “It is not in our strategic direction to make this kind of game.” He also called Bloodlines a “dead end” in the context of Paradox’s own game-making plans.
Read that statement for what it covers. It is Paradox’s view of its own strategy for a hypothetical sequel. It is not a legal ruling, a formal cancellation of the franchise, or a statement about who may make a remake of the original. A remake is a different product with different rights questions, and Lilja’s comments do not address them.

How Bloodlines 2 shaped Paradox’s position
The company’s caution makes more sense when you look at the sequel’s history. The timeline below comes from Paradox’s own announcements and disclosures.
| Date | What happened | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | Paradox announced The Chinese Room as the developer of Bloodlines 2. | Paradox press release, 2023 |
| 2024 | Paradox and The Chinese Room made a joint decision to delay the game to prioritise polish and quality assurance, and to expand the story. | Paradox and The Chinese Room statements, 2024 |
| 2025-10-21 | Bloodlines 2 released. | Paradox Interactive, 2025 |
| 2025 | Paradox recorded a 355 million SEK non-cash write-down of capitalised development costs, based on a sales forecast made 30 days after release. | Paradox Interactive financial disclosure, 2025 |
| 2025 | The interim report described the project as initiated in a different strategic era and outside the company’s actual core business. | Paradox Interactive interim report, 2025 |
The write-down is an accounting charge against capitalised development costs for one project. It is not a decision about the 2004 game. Still, it shows the financial exposure of large RPG projects, and it is the context in which Paradox’s chief executive, Fredrik Wester, said that sales had fallen short of projections and that “the responsibility lies fully with us as the publisher.” He added that the company would focus capital on its core segments while evaluating how best to develop the World of Darkness catalogue.

Who controls the rights
Owning or stewarding the World of Darkness brand is not the same as owning every component of the 2004 game. A remake or re-release would have to account for game-specific publishing agreements, the original code, the music, and any other licensed elements. Paradox’s and White Wolf’s public statements establish brand stewardship and co-publishing roles for the sequel, but they do not set out how those rights are divided for the original title. Until that is clarified in public, neither a remake nor a re-release can be assumed to have a clear path, even if the brand holders were willing.
Paths forward and their current status
Three different things are often grouped together as “a Bloodlines remake.” They have different owners, different legal questions, and different availability.

| Path | What it would involve | Status as of 2026-10-08 |
|---|---|---|
| Official remake | A new build of the 2004 game, authorised by its rights holders. | No announcement. No public statement identifies a developer, publisher or rights path. |
| Official remaster or re-release | The existing game re-issued on current platforms, with or without updates. | No announcement. The complete rights chain for the original game is not publicly established. |
| Fan-made patches or mods | Community changes to the existing game. | Not addressed by official statements. Their availability and legal standing are not established in the public material reviewed. |
Only the first two are official paths. The third is outside Paradox’s and White Wolf’s announced plans, so it should not be read as a stand-in for either.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What would change the picture
- An official announcement from Paradox or White Wolf naming a developer, publisher and platforms for the original game.
- A public statement clarifying who holds the rights to the 2004 game’s code, music and licensed elements.
- A change in Paradox’s stated strategy beyond the 2024 interview and the 2025 financial disclosures.
- A licensing deal under which another party makes a Bloodlines product, which Lilja described as the route he would expect for this kind of game.
Until one of these appears, the reasonable reading is that a remake is possible in principle but has no visible path from the companies that control the franchise’s present.
