The viral “chocolate purse” is Louis Vuitton’s Chocolate Egg Bag, a real edible confection modeled on the house’s Egg Bag design. It spread in June 2025 after a video showed a roommate breaking one by accident. The clip combined a luxury label, a convincing handbag-shaped chocolate, a first-date gift story and a small household dispute, which gave viewers an easy plot and a striking visual payoff. The bag is a seasonal sweet, not a wearable accessory, and its 2026 Easter return is documented, but whether it is stocked today is not established.
What the viral object is
The Chocolate Egg Bag is a confection that Louis Vuitton released as a seasonal item. It takes the form of the house’s Egg Bag, a handbag design created by Nicolas Ghesquière for the Spring/Summer 2019 women’s show, and renders it in chocolate. The Mary Sue quoted the brand’s own product description, which reads: “This year, the ‘Chocolate Egg Bag’, inspired by the iconic model created by Nicolas Ghesquière, Artistic Director of the Women’s collections, is transformed into chocolate.”
It is meant to be eaten. Wallpaper* confirmed that the item returned for Easter 2026 and credited the collection to Louis Vuitton pastry chef Maxime Frédéric. Coverage from 2025 and 2026 treats it as a genuine product rather than a joke or a fan creation, so the question “is it real?” has a clear answer.
What happened in the video
The story began on May 22, 2025, when a TikTok creator named Avery (@aveeeeery) posted that a date had given her a Louis Vuitton chocolate purse. Her roommate, Ella (@tallertoddlers), later filmed herself taking the chocolate from the refrigerator. The chocolate handle broke and the bag fell. Coverage dates Ella’s clip to the start of June 2025. The May post and the June clip are reported by news outlets; the original posts were not reviewed directly for this article.

The Daily Dot reproduced the caption Ella attached to the video: “I just broke the chocolate purse.” That is the post as the Daily Dot quoted it, not an interview with Ella.
Why it spread
The video worked because the first glance and the second glance disagree. A viewer sees a designer handbag, then realizes the object is a fragile chocolate shell. That moment of surprise is the core of the clip. It is an editorial reading of why the video travelled, not a statement from Louis Vuitton or the creators.

The breakage also produced a conflict that viewers could take a side on. Commenters debated whether Ella should have touched an expensive gift belonging to someone else, whether accidental damage was excusable and whether she should replace it. The Mary Sue recorded comments that chastised Ella alongside comments defending her, and the Daily Dot described the wider exchange as roommate-living discourse. The argument, more than the chocolate itself, is what kept the clip circulating.
View counts show the scale of attention, but they are time-stamped measurements taken by news outlets, not live numbers. The Mary Sue reported 51 million views on June 3, 2025, roughly three days after the clip was posted. The Daily Dot reported more than 55 million views on June 5, 2025. Neither figure should be treated as the current total. No independent statistic on the wider trend was located beyond these individual video reports.

Prices for the 2025 item and the 2026 seasonal items were reported by different outlets, in different currencies and at different times. They do not describe one fixed price and should not be combined.

The 2025 prices were reported close to the time of the video, and the 2026 euro prices are seasonal figures from March 2026. None of these should be read as the price today. Confirm current pricing on Louis Vuitton’s official website before relying on any number.

Wallpaper* reported online sales and in-store availability in Paris and New York beginning March 13, 2026. The Mary Sue’s 2025 coverage named Paris, New York, Shanghai and Singapore as select cities. Those are dated reports of seasonal sales, not a current inventory.
