Victoria Justice said she missed Zoey 102 because another movie she had signed on to conflicted with the film’s schedule. Director Nancy Hower said the production had written a part for her but could not make the timing and travel logistics work. Alexa Nikolas, who played Nicole Bristow, was also absent; although she had publicly criticized the project, the available reporting does not establish that criticism as the reason she did not appear.
Why Victoria Justice didn’t return as Lola
Justice, who played Lola Martinez on Zoey 101, gave a direct explanation for missing the reunion movie: a scheduling conflict with another film. In an interview with OK! Magazine, as quoted by CinemaBlend on July 4, 2023, she said, “I would have loved to be there, but there were scheduling conflicts. I was signed on to do a movie, and the dates conflicted.” She added that she loved the cast and that Lola remained special to her.

Justice gave a similar account in a March 2023 interview with Pop Culture Planet, saying the timing had been hard to work out and that her absence was “not because of a lack of love for the cast and for that show.” She said she wished she could have taken part and was rooting for the cast.
What the director said about Justice’s planned role
Director Nancy Hower corroborated that the production tried to include Justice. Speaking to TVLine on July 27, 2023, Hower said a part had been written for her, but the large ensemble and the need to fly cast members in on particular days made the schedule unworkable. Hower speculated that Justice might have been touring, but presented that detail tentatively; the scheduling and logistics were the central obstacles she described.

Justice also said in 2023 that she was open to playing Lola again, while noting at the time that nothing was in the works. That was a statement about the situation then, not an update on current plans.
Why Alexa Nikolas didn’t return as Nicole
Nikolas, who played Nicole Bristow, did not appear in Zoey 102. The Washington Post reported that she had publicly opposed the production. At a January 2023 protest, Nikolas told TMZ that the project was “damaging to any survivor that wants to come forward.”

That criticism is relevant context, but it does not establish why Nikolas was absent. The reporting does not confirm whether she was invited, declined an invitation, or was excluded, and it does not provide a direct statement from her identifying one definitive reason. It would therefore be inaccurate to say that she refused to return or that her opposition was conclusively the cause.

Nickelodeon’s January 12, 2023 announcement described Zoey 102 as a present-day reunion of Pacific Coast Academy alumni for a wedding. It named Jamie Lynn Spears, Erin Sanders, Sean Flynn, Matthew Underwood, Christopher Massey, Abby Wilde and Jack Salvatore among the stars; Justice and Nikolas were not on the announced list. A cast announcement shows who was named, but does not by itself explain an actor’s absence.
The film was announced as a Paramount+ exclusive, and release-era reporting said it became available on the service on July 27, 2023. Streaming catalogs can change by date and territory, so that release information should not be taken as confirmation of current availability.
