No public statement cited here explains why Taylor Swift’s 2024 Eras Tour skipped Perth or why Gelsenkirchen received three dates. Venue capacity, production logistics and routing have been suggested as possibilities, but they remain theories—not confirmed reasons from Swift, her management or the tour’s organizers.
What the tour schedule confirms
Swift’s Australian leg in February 2024 included Melbourne and Sydney, but not Perth. After adding one show in each of those cities, promoter Frontier Touring said, “No further dates will be added for the Australian tour,” according to ABC News Australia. The promoter described the presale demand behind the added dates as “historically unprecedented.” Those comments explain the additional Melbourne and Sydney shows, not why Perth was absent.
In Germany, Gelsenkirchen hosted three Eras Tour performances on July 17, 18 and 19, 2024. The dates appear in the Veltins-Arena event calendar; Swift’s official tour site lists July 18 and 19.
Why might Perth have been left out?
There is no confirmed explanation in the cited material. A PerthNow report raised venue configuration and capacity, the ability to accommodate the production, travel time and production economics as possible factors. They are hypotheses, not an account of the booking decision. In particular, do not treat a reported estimate about a possible concert setup as a confirmed capacity requirement for Swift’s show.
Perth’s absence from the itinerary is clear; the reason is not. The available reporting does not establish that the tour considered a Perth date and rejected it, or that any single venue or routing issue determined the schedule.
What the Optus Stadium claim does—and does not—show
On June 22, 2023, Patrick Gorman, then an Australian assistant minister, publicly advocated for dates in Perth and Queensland. In an interview transcript published by the Australian Government, he said he had checked that Optus Stadium was available when he expected the tour to fly over Perth on its way to Singapore.

That establishes Gorman’s claim about the stadium’s availability and his advocacy. It does not establish that the tour organizers checked those dates, considered Optus Stadium, or explained a decision to omit Perth.
Why Gelsenkirchen hosted three nights
The Veltins-Arena said Gelsenkirchen was one of three German cities on the tour and that no other German city hosted more performances. Its summer 2024 calendar included Swift’s three concerts alongside two AC/DC shows, four UEFA Euro 2024 matches and five Rammstein shows. That calendar shows the venue’s major-event activity, but it does not reveal why the tour selected the city or booked three nights.

The label “little known” is subjective. Gelsenkirchen is a city in Germany’s Ruhr area, and its three dates made it a substantial stop on the German leg. The Associated Press reported on the tour’s European travel, but the cited coverage does not supply an internal booking rationale for Gelsenkirchen.

The Melbourne Cricket Ground reported 96,000 attendees each night for Swift’s February 16–18 shows, or 288,000 across the three nights. Those figures, published by the MCG, illustrate the scale of the Melbourne engagement. They do not explain why the tour did not add Perth.
