Its final broadcast was May 21, 2026. There is no return date for the concluded series in the available information.
Why isn’t The Late Show on this week?
This is not a routine weekly break or a missed episode: The Late Show with Stephen Colbert ended its run in May 2026. CBS announced in July 2025 that it would end the program and retire The Late Show franchise. CBS described the choice as “purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night.” That is the network’s stated explanation for the cancellation.

CBS News reported that the final broadcast aired Thursday, May 21, 2026. Paramount Press Express’s official final-week schedule covered May 15–21, corroborating the end-of-run timing. CBS News described the franchise as ending after 33 years; that figure refers to the franchise, not Stephen Colbert’s tenure as host.
When does it return?
There is no return date for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert because the series concluded, rather than going on hiatus. The available announcements and final-broadcast reporting do not identify a revival or a future season. A separate future project involving Colbert, if one is announced, would not by itself mean this series has returned.

Where was the show available?
Paramount Press Express’s release for the final week described weekday broadcasts on CBS and streaming availability on Paramount+ under the plan stated at that time. That historical description does not establish whether the show’s past episodes are currently available there, or whether the full back catalog can be watched.
