Garth Brooks’s music is not on Spotify or Apple Music because of an exclusive streaming arrangement with Amazon Music, announced on October 19, 2016. Amazon’s own November 2023 release still described the full catalog as available only on Amazon Music. The documented cause is a distribution choice, not a case of a streaming service quietly leaving out music it was free to carry. The sources behind this article establish that deal and Amazon’s 2023 description. They do not confirm which services carry his catalog in October 2026, so present-tense availability needs a check on your end.
How the Amazon deal came about
Before the Amazon arrangement, Brooks sold his digital music through his own store, GhostTunes. His official 2015 announcement described buying and downloading tracks to an account, then streaming them across devices. In that announcement he explained what he wanted the store to be: “I want a place that knows how important music is to people and what kind of responsibility it is to be the bridge between the people that create the music and those that listen to it.” That statement describes GhostTunes. It is not an explanation of why he later chose Amazon over other services, and GhostTunes should not be treated as a current purchase option without checking it first.

On October 19, 2016, Amazon and Brooks’s official site announced that his music would stream exclusively on Amazon Music. CBS News reported at the time that Brooks had talked with Spotify and Apple, and that Amazon made the better overall offer, covering downloads, streaming and physical album sales. That is reported context about the offer’s scope. The contract terms, payment figures and internal reasoning are not published in the sources cited here, so no royalty or per-stream comparison should be drawn from them. No named statement from Brooks explaining the choice of Amazon over Spotify and Apple has been verified in those sources.
What the record shows, then, is a documented exclusive with Amazon, not evidence that Spotify or Apple declined a catalog they were licensed to stream.

What Amazon said in 2023
Amazon’s November 2023 release said fans could stream the full catalog only on Amazon Music. It described a collection of 17 albums — Amazon, 2023. That figure refers to the collection Amazon described in that release. It is not a verified count of every album Brooks has released, so do not read it as his complete discography.
This is the most recent dated official statement on the full catalog that the sources cover. It is the basis for describing the Amazon exclusive as ongoing as of 2023, and nothing later in the sources confirms or ends it.
How a catalog can be missing from a service
A Spotify Community moderator gave a general explanation in a discussion where users asked why there were no “real” Garth Brooks songs on the platform. The moderator’s point was that licensing agreements and music ownership can determine whether a catalog is available on a given service. That explains how an artist’s music can be absent from a platform. It is not a statement about Brooks’s own contract. Three common causes apply in general:
- Exclusive distribution: an artist grants one service the right to stream the catalog for a period, as Brooks did with Amazon in 2016.
- Licensing limits: a service may not hold rights to a given recording in a given country.
- Ownership changes: the party controlling the masters or distribution rights can change, which can change availability.
Of these, only the first is documented for Brooks in the sources cited here.

Where things stand in October 2026
ABC News reported on June 3, 2026 that Brooks was considering a sale of his catalog. That report describes a possible transaction. It does not say a sale closed or that streaming rights changed, so it should not be linked to current availability on any service. Until a dated, official source says otherwise, the last documented position is Amazon Music exclusivity as described in November 2023.

How to check availability yourself
- In Spotify, use the search bar, type “Garth Brooks,” open the artist profile and check the Discography or Albums section. Repeat from the country you actually live in, because catalogs differ by market.
- In Apple Music, search for “Garth Brooks,” open the artist page and look for the Albums section. Note the region shown on your account.
- In Amazon Music, search the same name and compare its album list with the other two services.
- Check the album type. A studio album, a compilation, a live recording and a featured appearance are separate items, and a result for one does not establish the others.
- If an album appears on one service but not another, record the date and country. A missing title on a single day in a single market is a result for that moment, not a permanent finding.
The routes to hearing the music, compared
| Route | What the sources establish | What to verify before you buy or subscribe |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Music streaming | Named as the exclusive streaming home in the October 2016 announcement and described as the only place for the full catalog in Amazon’s November 2023 release | Current subscription terms and country availability: not stated in the sources |
| Physical albums (CDs) | CBS News reported in 2016 that the Amazon offer included physical album sales | Current editions, stock and prices: not stated in the sources |
| GhostTunes store | Official 2015 announcement described buying and downloading tracks, then streaming them across devices | Whether the store still sells this music today: not stated in the sources |
| Spotify | No current catalog check is documented; the 2023 Amazon statement describes the full catalog as Amazon-only | Album results by country: not stated in the sources |
| Apple Music | No current catalog check is documented; the 2023 Amazon statement describes the full catalog as Amazon-only | Album results by country: not stated in the sources |
What the record does not settle
- No verified figure on streaming economics or royalties explains the 2016 decision, and none should be attached to it.
- No current catalog search by country or track has been documented, so there is no basis for a blanket claim about every live recording, compilation, featured appearance or cover recording.
- The 2026 catalog-sale report concerns a possible transaction, not a confirmed one.
