Steve Doocy stopped hosting Fox & Friends from the New York studio under a role change Fox News Media announced on May 1, 2025. He was not retiring or leaving the program. He moved to Florida and was set to co-host remotely from locations around the country, three days a week.
What the May 2025 announcement changed
Fox News Media’s announcement described Doocy, a founding co-host of Fox & Friends, taking a “coast-to-coast” role. It said he would be based in Florida and would co-host from the Southeast, the Midwest, and other regions. The change concerned where he works and how often he appears on the show. It did not announce an exit from the program.
Old arrangement versus announced arrangement
The table below compares the studio routine Doocy had followed for decades with the arrangement Fox announced. Both columns describe the situation as reported in May 2025.
| Aspect | Previous routine | Announced arrangement (May 1, 2025) |
|---|---|---|
| Work location | Daily presence on the curved couch at the New York studio | Based in Florida; co-hosts remotely from locations across the country (Fox News Media, 2025) |
| Schedule | Weekday studio shifts, including the 3:30 a.m. start he described on air | Three days per week (Fox News, 2025) |
| Format | In-studio co-hosting | Coast-to-coast co-hosting, with a focus on regions that get less national airtime, per Doocy’s remarks |
| Program status | Founding co-host | Still a co-host; not described as retiring or leaving (Fox News Media, 2025) |
Why Doocy gave for the change
In his on-air remarks on May 1, 2025, Doocy said that after decades of getting up at 3:30 a.m. and driving into New York City in the dark, that day was the last time he would host the show from the couch. He also said that a Florida base would let him cover parts of the country that receive little national airtime. These are Doocy’s own explanations. The announcement and coverage report them as his reasons, and this article does not independently verify them.
