Deal or No Deal Island was cancelled by NBC after two seasons, so a third season is hypothetical—not ordered or in production. But if the format ever returned, it should keep a deliberate mix of reality-competition veterans and people new to television rather than fill every spot with familiar reality stars. Peacock used that mix for Season 2; the case for retaining it is about the possibilities it creates, not a proven ratings formula.
Why a hypothetical Season 3 needs a mix
Reality-competition veterans know how to read alliances, manage their public image and recognize familiar strategic moves. Their experience can give a competition a sharper strategic vocabulary, while recognizable faces may give some viewers an immediate point of entry.

Newcomers offer a different kind of possibility: viewers have not already seen them play another televised game, and their relationships with veteran contestants may be less predictable. They also bring fresh people for the audience to discover. Those are arguments about the format, not established findings that newcomers improve gameplay or ratings.
Peacock described Season 2 as featuring “a mix of competition show veterans and TV newcomers competing for the biggest cash prize in Deal or No Deal history.” That is a real precedent for a mixed cast, but Peacock’s promotional description does not establish that the balance caused a particular result.

What makes this format different
Banijay describes Deal or No Deal Island as a reimagining of the original Deal or No Deal format. Its casting therefore has to work for more than a familiar reality-competition contest: contestants also need to engage with the show’s deal-making premise. A cast made entirely of established strategists might offer a clear tactical through-line, but it could also make the social dynamics feel more familiar. Adding newcomers creates room for different reactions to the choices and uncertainty built into that premise.
This is a casting rationale, not a claim that one type of contestant is inherently better. The useful question is whether the contestants’ different levels of experience produce a varied group that can make the competition and the deal-making compelling together.

How to judge the balance
A hypothetical return should cast for variety of role and perspective, not simply divide the lineup into equal halves. Producers could assess candidates along several dimensions:
- Competition experience: What strategic fluency or fresh approach would this person bring?
- Audience familiarity: Is the candidate recognizable, or does the cast make space for viewers to meet someone new?
- Novelty: Has the audience already seen this person in a similar competition role?
- Fit with the deal-making premise: Can the candidate make the game’s choices and negotiations engaging to watch?
- Group dynamics: Will the lineup support varied relationships and strategic interactions rather than repeat one familiar pattern?
These are editorial criteria for thinking about a cast, not measured predictors of success. A mixed cast is worthwhile when the contestants complement one another—not merely because a veteran-newcomer ratio sounds balanced.

What the numbers do—and do not—show
TVLine reported that Jordan Fowler won $1.23 million in Season 1 and David Genat won $5.8 million in Season 2. TV News Check, citing Nielsen, reported a Season 2 average adults 18–49 rating of 0.24. Those figures document reported prize outcomes and an audience measure; they do not show that cast composition caused either outcome. Nor do they establish that an all-veteran or mixed cast would perform better.
That distinction matters because the available precedent and the available outcomes answer different questions. Peacock’s announcement establishes that Season 2 mixed competition veterans and newcomers. The reported wins and rating do not establish whether that choice helped the show’s gameplay or audience.

Season 3 remains hypothetical
NBC cancelled Deal or No Deal Island after two seasons, according to TVLine. There is no basis here to describe Season 3 as ordered, in production or imminent. The casting argument is therefore conditional: if the format were revived, a lineup with both experienced competition players and newcomers would preserve the mix Peacock described for Season 2 while leaving room for less familiar dynamics.
Peacock’s catalog lists the series and two seasons, though streaming availability can change. That is the existing show—not evidence of a third season.
