Sameer Shah is a fictional doctor and former leading scientist in Vought R&D, played by Omid Abtahi. He matters to The Boys Season 5 mainly through the Supe Virus, a project he is reported to have worked on with Butcher. His role could be large because he combines technical knowledge of the virus with a personal stake in what Vought and Homelander did. But the reported turn in his relationship with Butcher means he is a conflicted player, not a dependable ally.
Who Sameer Shah is
Sameer Shah is a character in the Season 5 cast, and Omid Abtahi plays him. The Apple TV listing for the second episode, “Teenage Kix,” names Abtahi as Dr. Sameer Shah. That listing confirms the casting and the character’s name, but it does not describe his story arc.

Season 5 coverage describes Sameer as a former leading scientist in Vought R&D, the company’s research division. That background is the basis for his importance. He is not presented as a field fighter or a political figure. He is someone who understands how the Supe Virus works and where its materials can be found.
His personal link to Victoria Neuman
Sameer is also Victoria Neuman’s partner. Episode 2 coverage from GamesRadar+ says he believes Homelander killed Victoria. That belief gives him a motive beyond professional interest. A scientist who blames Homelander for a loss he cannot undo has reasons to act against Vought’s most powerful Supe, and reasons to be guarded about whom he trusts.

Why the Supe Virus makes him strategically important
The Supe Virus is the thread that connects Sameer to the main conflict. According to episode 2 coverage, he works with Butcher to engineer it, and Butcher’s group uses it in its fight against Supes. Whoever controls the scientific knowledge behind the virus controls part of the group’s options. That is why a single doctor can have an outsized effect on the plot.
The Season 5 trailer raises the stakes further. A GamesRadar+ report on the trailer quotes Sameer saying: “If Homelander gets his hands on some, he’d be immortal.” The line refers to V1, the substance the trailer reveals. Read it as a trailer explanation of why the material matters, not as confirmation that Sameer decides how the season ends.

The turn with Butcher (spoiler warning)
The episodes below contain plot spoilers for Season 5.
Episode 2: working with Butcher
In episode 2, Sameer is the scientist working with Butcher on the virus. A GamesRadar+ recap also describes The Boys returning to him to retrieve a virus sample. That detail places him in the group’s operational circle, not on the sidelines.

Episode 3: destroying the batches
Episode 3 coverage reports a sharp change. After Zoe appears alive and Sameer realizes Butcher lied to him about her, and that Butcher killed Victoria, he destroys the virus batches. The shift matters because it removes the Butcher-controlled production route that the earlier episode had established. It also shows that Sameer’s expertise is valuable to more than one side, since his choices can help or hinder the group depending on what he knows.
The reported events do not establish where his loyalty ends up. Coverage supports a break with Butcher, not a settled alliance with anyone else.

How he could shape the rest of Season 5
Sameer’s possible influence rests on three narrative functions. The table below separates each one from the evidence that supports it.
| Narrative function | What the reporting supports | Limit of the evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Technical access to the virus and V1 | Works with Butcher on the Supe Virus (episode 2 coverage); the trailer ties V1 to Homelander’s immortality | Not stated: how much of the virus process only he can control |
| Personal motive tied to Victoria and Zoe | Believes Homelander killed Victoria (episode 2 recap); learns Butcher lied about Zoe and Victoria (episode 3 coverage) | Not stated: what he does next with that motive |
| Ability to support or obstruct Butcher’s plan | Destroys the virus batches after the break (episode 3 coverage) | Not stated: whether he later rejoins Butcher or opposes Homelander directly |
These three axes explain why he could have a large role. They do not establish his screen time, his episode count, or how he ranks against other Season 5 characters. No source reviewed here publishes those figures.

What is and is not established
- Established by cited coverage: Sameer is played by Omid Abtahi, is a former Vought R&D scientist, works with Butcher on the Supe Virus in episode 2, and destroys the virus batches in episode 3 after learning Butcher lied to him.
- Presented as trailer setup: The line about Homelander becoming immortal if he obtained V1.
- Not established: an official series synopsis for Sameer, his full role in the finale, or his ultimate fate.
Treat any prediction about how Sameer’s story ends as speculation. The reported facts show a character who can strongly affect the virus storyline, not one who can single-handedly decide Homelander’s fate.
Sameer Shah’s role is significant because the virus depends on his knowledge and because his break with Butcher changes the group’s options. What remains open is whether his split with Butcher is permanent and what he does with the virus knowledge he still has.
Sources: GamesRadar+ episode 2 recap, GamesRadar+ episode 3 coverage and Season 5 trailer report, and the Apple TV episode listing for “Teenage Kix.”
Sameer’s story is reported across episodes 2 and 3 and the trailer. For a character whose role depends on a virus he helped engineer and then destroyed, the most useful question for readers is not whether he matters, but which side his expertise serves next.
