Filmed selfie-style as the moving train’s airflow swept around her, the clips turned an ordinary commute into a music-video-like performance—and sparked recreations by other creators.
Who is Tube Girl?
Sabrina Bahsoon is a Malaysian-born creator and Durham University law graduate who became known online as Tube Girl. Her nickname refers to the London Underground, which is commonly called the Tube in the UK. British Vogue dates the start of her Tube Girl videos to August 2023.
In an October 2023 interview, Bahsoon described TikTok as a more creative and authentic outlet after law school. She told Glamour UK, “After law school, I was sick of doing things I didn’t want to do.”
What made the Tube Girl videos distinctive?
Bahsoon filmed herself dancing or lip-syncing on the Underground, using selfie-style camera movement and the airflow of a moving train to give the clips a music-video feel. The contrast between the everyday commute and her unselfconscious performance helped the format stand out.
