Taylor Swift gives the black hat she wears during “22” to Bianka Bryant, the daughter of Kobe and Vanessa Bryant. The scene in Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour was filmed at the August 3, 2023, concert at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Bianka’s family had endured a devastating loss, but the available reporting does not say that loss was why Swift chose her for the moment.
Who receives the “22” hat in the movie?
The recipient is Bianka Bryant, who was six years old at the August 2023 concert. The Los Angeles Times reported that Swift approached her at the front of the stage, hugged her, placed the hat on her head, and kissed her cheek. Good Morning America also identified Bianka as the recipient at the show, and CinemaBlend identifies her in the concert film.
The filmed moment comes from Swift’s August 3, 2023, performance at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. It is an onstage interaction from that concert, not a separate scene created for the movie. The Los Angeles Times’ account of the concert and Good Morning America’s report describe the handoff.
What is the tragic backstory?
Bianka is the daughter of Kobe and Vanessa Bryant and the younger sister of Gianna Bryant. In January 2020, Kobe and Gianna died alongside seven other people in a helicopter crash. The Los Angeles Times connected that family history to the concert, where Vanessa wore a jacket paying tribute to Gianna.

That loss gives the scene added emotional context for viewers, but it is important not to turn context into an explanation. The reporting establishes who Bianka is, what happened to her family, and that Swift knew Kobe. It does not establish that the crash or the family’s grief was the reason Bianka received the hat. The movie shows a joyful interaction; it does not explain Swift’s choice as a memorial.
Why does Taylor Swift give away the “22” hat?
Giving the hat worn during “22” to a fan is a recurring moment on the Eras Tour. Bianka’s family connection made this particular handoff stand out: reporting notes that Swift knew her father, Kobe Bryant. That connection helps explain why the moment drew attention, but it does not prove what motivated Swift to select Bianka that night. CinemaBlend’s account of the film scene identifies Bianka, while its explainer on the hat tradition discusses the recurring fan handoff and Bianka’s connection to Swift through Kobe.
