The original Pop It concept was created by toy designers Theo and Ora Coster, who work under the name Theora Design. FoxMind later licensed the design and developed it for commercial release. The invention and the commercial launch are separate parts of the story, and keeping them apart is the simplest way to read claims about who “made” the toy.
Who the designers are
Theo and Ora Coster are married toy designers, and Theora Design is the name associated with their work. Reporting attributes the original concept to both of them, not to FoxMind, a retailer, or the viral trend that later made the toy famous. A 2026 interview with their son, Boaz Coster, supports the family attribution. In that interview he describes the design, under the name Last Mouse Lost (Pop It), as the work of his parents, licensed to FoxMind.
When the design was created
Reporting places the original concept in the 1970s. One account gives 1975 as the prototype year. That is the most frequently cited date, but it is a reported year rather than a date fixed by a dated design record from that period, and no patent-based date has been established. Treat 1975 as the reported prototype year, not as the exact day the idea took shape.
Who did what
Four parties appear in the record, and each has a different role. The table separates them so that the designers are not confused with the company that later sold the toy.

- 【ATTENTION】We've upgraded the pop fidget balls by adding a valve to the ball so they can be inflated and deflated for better storage. As soon as you open the valve, the ball will automatically fill with air in 3-5 seconds. Once the valve is closed, the ball won't leak air until you open the valve again. The valve design will not affect the popping and squeezing function. We also add keyhole to every ball, and each ball has a chain. You can use the ball as a keychain or use as hanging decoration.

From licence to shelves
The design was not an immediate mass-market hit. Its commercial path ran through FoxMind, which took the Costers’ concept, developed it for release, and sold it as Go Pop!. Because the licence came after the design, the release date of the commercial product should never be read as the invention date. The same caution applies to the later viral popularity, which came much later still.
Invention and viral success are separate stories
The original idea predates the toy’s viral popularity by decades. Reporting describes the later boom and the renewed visibility the toy gained, but the designers’ own account focuses on how the toy is played, not on its fame. Any figure for sales or online views should be checked against its original publisher and year before it is repeated.

The play idea Ora Coster described
Ora Coster’s explanation of the design centres on a simple, reversible, single-piece format. In the Jewish Telegraphic Agency’s 2021 report she is quoted describing the play:
“The trick in this game is that you can play it again as soon as the contest ends: you simply turn it upside down.”

“Pop It” is both a product name and a general label for many pressable silicone toys. The name Go Pop! is the one FoxMind’s catalog uses for its original game, and the 2026 interview uses Last Mouse Lost (Pop It) for the same design. Generic listings may use “Pop It” without any link to the Costers or to FoxMind. That does not make them unlicensed or unsafe; it means the link to the original cannot be assumed from the name alone.

When you are checking a product, look at these points:
- Named original: check the packaging or listing for FoxMind, Go Pop!, or a Theora Design credit.
- Shape and size: compare the dimensions the seller states, since generic copies vary.
- Material and durability: treat these as the seller’s claims unless a manufacturer states them directly.
- Format: a single-piece pop toy and a game with rules are different products; Go Pop! is described by FoxMind as a game.
- Age guidance: follow the age label on the specific listing.
Appearance alone does not tell you whether a toy is safe, licensed, or linked to the original designers. The toy is marketed for sensory or tactile play. None of the sources reviewed establish any therapeutic or clinical benefit, so it should not be described as treatment for any condition.
