Rory Gilmore does not end up with anyone on screen. The final scene of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, Netflix’s 2016 revival, closes with Rory telling her mother, Lorelai, “I’m pregnant.” The episode never shows her choosing a romantic partner, and it never identifies the baby’s father. The original series finale, “Bon Voyage” (2007), also leaves her without a partner.
Two endings, two different answers
The 2007 series finale
In “Bon Voyage,” Rory turns down Logan’s marriage proposal and leaves to take a reporting job covering Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. The episode closes on her departure rather than on a new relationship, so anyone asking about the original show’s ending is looking at a deliberate choice to leave her romantic life open.
The 2016 revival
Netflix’s A Year in the Life picks Rory up roughly nine years later. Its final scene is the pregnancy reveal. Readers who want to confirm the episode list and format can check Netflix’s official title page, which identifies the revival and its episodes. Streaming availability depends on the country you are in, so the page is the place to confirm where it can be watched.
The relationships the revival leaves unresolved
The revival revisits three men from Rory’s past, plus a boyfriend who is mostly a running joke. None of them is given a finished storyline that makes him her partner.

Logan
Rory is still seeing Logan during trips to London, even though he is engaged to Odette. The affair is the revival’s most consequential romantic thread, and it is the one most often connected to the ending. But the series shows the affair, not a decision about the future.
Jess
Jess returns as a supportive friend rather than a romantic option. He encourages Rory to write a book about her life with Lorelai. That is the most meaningful exchange he has with her in the revival, and it points toward her career rather than a reunion.
Paul
Paul is Rory’s boyfriend in the revival, and the show makes a running gag of Rory and others repeatedly forgetting him. The joke is part of the story’s commentary on how little room Rory has left for a stable relationship.
What the final scene confirms and what it leaves open

| Question | What the episodes show | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Is Rory pregnant at the end? | She tells Lorelai “I’m pregnant” in the final scene. | Confirmed on screen |
| Is Rory with Logan at the end? | She is involved with him during the revival, while he is engaged to Odette. The finale does not show a reunion or a commitment. | Not resolved |
| Does Rory end up with Jess? | He is a supportive friend who encourages her writing. | Not resolved; no romance shown |
| Is Paul her partner? | He is her boyfriend in the revival, but the show does not settle the relationship. | Not resolved |
| Who is the baby’s father? | The episode does not name him. | Not stated on screen |
Who is the baby’s father?
This is the question most often confused with “who does Rory end up with,” and the two should be kept apart. A romantic outcome asks whom she chooses. Paternity asks who fathered the child, and the revival does not answer it.
Logan is the common inference, because the timing of the affair makes him the most obvious candidate. That is a reading of the timeline, not something the finale states. Anyone quoting the father’s identity as settled canon is going beyond what the episodes show.

What the creator has said about the ending
Netflix Tudum reported Amy Sherman-Palladino’s comments on the ending in two interviews. In an Entertainment Weekly interview, as quoted by Netflix Tudum, she said: “It’s open-ended because life is open-ended.”
In a TVLine interview, also as quoted by Netflix Tudum, she described her intention this way: “I always wanted [the story] to end in a Life Repeats Itself kind of way. The daughter following in the mother’s footsteps.” Read together, the two statements explain why the finale closes on a pregnancy rather than a wedding or a reunion. The show ends with Rory’s life following the shape of her mother’s, not with a romantic resolution.

Why the open ending matters for rewatching
If you are rewatching for clues, the most useful focus is the Logan storyline, because it carries the most weight in the timeline leading to the reveal. Watch his scenes in London and the conversations Rory has with Lorelai about her life and career. Those episodes show the decisions the finale leaves unanswered.
- Track the timeline of the Logan affair against Rory’s career choices.
- Note Jess’s scenes as encouragement toward writing, not as a romantic setup.
- Keep the paternity question separate from the question of Rory’s partner.
The point of the ending is not a confirmed match but a deliberately incomplete life, which is why the show’s own framing matters more than fan theories.
