Spoilers for Avatar: The Way of Water: Neteyam, Jake and Neytiri’s eldest son, is the major named character who dies in “Avatar 2.” He is fatally shot during the climactic battle with the RDA while helping rescue Spider.
How Neteyam dies
During the final conflict with the Resources Development Administration (RDA), Neteyam is shot while helping his family rescue Spider. He dies from his injuries, and the Sully family mourns him afterward. The official Avatar.com retrospective confirms his death. Britain Dalton, who plays Lo’ak, described his character’s reaction: “When Neteyam dies… that’s no way that he ever imagined being finally able to be seen. He blames himself.”

Who else dies in the final battle?
Unnamed fighters also die in the battle, but the available accounts do not establish a complete casualty list or a verified total. Neteyam is the only major named character identified as dying in the film.
Does Quaritch die in Avatar 2?
No. The original human Colonel Miles Quaritch died in the first Avatar. In The Way of Water, the Quaritch character is a recombinant—a Na’vi body carrying the original’s memories. He is strangled and sinks during the finale, but Spider rescues him. Quaritch regains consciousness and flies away on an ikran. Disney’s film coverage and franchise coverage distinguish the recombinant from the original; the ending is also recapped by GamesRadar+.
