Who are the two characters?
They are Jack Harper and Victoria “Vika” Olsen. Universal’s release announcement describes Jack as a drone repairman working with Vika to salvage resources on Earth after its evacuation. The film’s official page lists Tom Cruise and Andrea Riseborough in the cast: Universal Studios Home Entertainment’s 2013 announcement.

Why are they called spies?
“Spies” is an informal description of their unwitting role, not what they understand themselves to be. Jack and Vika believe they are carrying out their assigned security and salvage work; they are not knowingly reporting on humanity or consciously betraying it.
What does the film reveal?
Spoiler: The plot summary identifies Jack and Victoria as clones of the original astronauts, created as soldiers for the Tet’s invasion. That account describes their role in the operation; it does not mean the pair knows the truth about their identities or purpose. See the IMDb plot summary.

How does Jack begin to question the mission?
In the story, set in 2077, Jack rescues Julia Rusakova (Olga Kurylenko) from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival disrupts what he believes about the mission and prompts him to question the account he and Vika have been given. Universal’s release announcement summarizes that setup.
