The video features three mothers criticizing her response. The title is the administration’s own accusatory framing, not a neutral description of the clip, and the events below are from early 2025.
What Gomez posted on January 27, 2025
Gomez posted a tearful video to Instagram on January 27, 2025. ABC News quoted her saying, “All my people are getting attacked, the children,” and, in the same video, “I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do.” She said she would “try everything” to help. ABC News cited the account at the time as having about 422 million Instagram followers; that is a January 2025 figure, not a current count. The post was subsequently deleted, so the wording available today comes from contemporaneous reporting rather than a viewable original.
What the White House video says
The video was released in the White House video library on February 6, 2025, under the official title above. The White House page confirms the title and date. It does not reproduce a transcript in its accessible page text, so the lines attributed to the participants come from Axios, which described and quoted the video when it was first reported.
The three mothers and what Axios reported they said
Axios identified the participants as Tammy Nobles, Alexis Nungaray, and Patty Morin, all described as mothers whose children were killed by undocumented immigrants. Each is quoted below as Axios reported it.

These are the participants’ own accusations about Gomez’s motives and sincerity. They are opinions presented in a partisan video, and they are not findings about Gomez.
Why the White House targeted Gomez’s post
The published record does not contain an official explanation of motive beyond the title and the video’s own argument: that a celebrity’s sympathy for deportees is misplaced when it does not extend to the families of people killed by immigrants in the country illegally. Axios offered its own analysis, describing the release as part of a campaign-like social-media approach to immigration messaging. That characterization is Axios’s judgment, not a documented White House statement of purpose.

The timing is also worth reading precisely. Axios reported on January 31, 2025, that the White House had made a video with the mothers. The official publication date is February 6, 2025, about ten days after Gomez’s post. So the video was produced within days of her post and released about a week after Axios first described it.
The policy backdrop in late January 2025
The exchange took place while the administration’s early deportation push was under way, and several figures from that period circulated alongside it. Each needs its source and scope kept in view.

- Colombia. A White House press secretary statement dated January 26, 2025, said the Government of Colombia had agreed to the administration’s terms. The statement said this included accepting deportees returned from the United States, including on U.S. military aircraft, and that tariffs and sanctions were drafted and would be held in reserve unless Colombia failed to honor the agreement. The statement’s own words were: “The Government of Colombia has agreed to all of President Trump’s terms, including the unrestricted acceptance of all illegal aliens from Colombia returned from the United States, including on U.S. military aircraft, without limitation or delay.” This is the White House’s account of the agreement.
- Mexico. ABC News reported that Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said Mexico had received 4,094 migrants since January 20, 2025, most of them Mexican nationals. The figure is Sheinbaum’s statement as reported by ABC, not an independently verified count.
- Arrests. Axios reported that ICE announced more than 3,500 unauthorized immigrants arrested in Trump’s first week. This is an agency-reported arrest count. It is not a deportation count.
Gomez’s later posts and the “Deport Selena Gomez” reply
ABC News later reported a further Gomez statement: “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people.” ABC also reported that she responded to a post by Sam Parker that said “Deport Selena Gomez.” These are reported social-media statements. The original items were described as deleted or otherwise unavailable at the time of reporting, so they should be read through the coverage that quoted them.
The fake Trump response image
A separate image circulated online as a purported Truth Social response from Donald Trump to Gomez. PolitiFact fact-checked it and found it fabricated: it reported no credible evidence that Trump posted it, and the image did not appear on his Truth Social account. This fabricated image is unrelated to the White House video, which is published in the official archive. Readers who saw the Trump image should treat it as a false post, not as part of the White House’s response.

How to separate the official video, the reporting, and the fact-checks
Three kinds of source are involved, and each establishes different things.
- The White House’s own presentation. The title, the February 6, 2025 date, and the decision to frame the clip as a rebuke are established by the official archive. The title’s accusations are the administration’s framing.
- Contemporaneous reporting. ABC News and Axios establish what Gomez said in her original post, the names of the participants, and the quotations attributed to them. Axios’s description of the video as part of a campaign-like messaging approach is labeled as its analysis.
- Fact-checks. PolitiFact establishes that the viral Trump image was fabricated. It does not address the White House video’s accuracy, which is a matter of argument rather than verification.
Two limits apply across all three. No current check of every social-platform copy of Gomez’s post was conducted, so whether any mirror is still online is not established. Follower counts, arrest figures, and the Mexican migrant figure are dated reporting from January and February 2025 and should not be read as current measures.
