What is the family timeline?
According to a biography published by Montgomery County, Maryland, Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson married in 1976 and divorced in 1980. Kate was a toddler when her parents split, CBS News reported in 2024.
Hawn has been with actor Kurt Russell since 1983, according to the county biography. They have a son, Wyatt, who is Kate’s maternal half-brother.

Is Kurt Russell Kate Hudson’s father?
Not biologically. Russell is Hawn’s longtime partner and a father figure to Kate and Oliver. In a 2016 report, British Vogue reported that Kate and Oliver referred to Russell as their father, describing his role in their family rather than changing their biological parentage.

In an interview published by CBS News on April 26, 2024, Kate described her relationship with Bill as limited but potentially improving: “I don’t really have one. But it’s like, I, you know, it’s warming up.” She also said she had no expectations of him and wanted him to be happy. These are her remarks at that time, not confirmation of her current relationship status. CBS News also noted that she called him a great songwriter.

In a 2016 British Vogue report, Kate said of forgiving her father: “I really do recognise whatever those issues are, it’s just something that he has to live with, and that must be painful for him. So I forgive him.” The same report quoted her saying Bill “was around when we were young” before the relationship “sort of teetered out.” Those comments, too, describe her account in 2016.
