No single celebrity is known as the World of Warcraft fan. Several public figures have spoken about playing the game, but the strength of that evidence varies. Some come from Blizzard Entertainment’s own profiles and interviews, some from a wire-service report quoting a Blizzard designer, and some from a second-hand account of an interview. Only a few are documented in a way that supports a claim about a specific period of play, and none of the sources reviewed establishes that these people still play today.
The documented examples
Four public figures have on-record links to World of Warcraft that are worth knowing about. They are not a ranked or complete list. Each one is described below with the kind of source behind the claim, because the source determines how much weight the claim can bear.
Michele Morrow
Morrow is a gamer and host who is profiled in Blizzard’s own community pages. According to that profile, she received a copy of World of Warcraft, became involved in the player community, achieved multiple server-firsts during the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, and went on to run guilds. The profile reproduces her own words: “World of Warcraft transformed my life in the most unexpected of ways.” It also quotes her saying, “The World of Warcraft community has supported me from the beginning — before and beyond any other group.”
Because this is a first-person statement reproduced by Blizzard, it establishes that Morrow has described WoW as a central part of her life. It does not, on its own, independently confirm how she plays today.

Demetrious Johnson (Mighty Mouse)
Johnson, a professional fighter, appears in a 2018 Blizzard interview. He says his play began around the Burning Crusade expansion. In his words: “That’s when it all started—I went straight to Horde, I made a Blood Elf.” He describes a preference for player-versus-environment content and, later, for player-versus-player Arena matches: “Now I do Arena, and it’s addicting.”
This is the most detailed first-person account among the examples, and it is a Blizzard-published interview. Its date is 2018, so it documents play up to that point rather than a current habit.

Robin Williams
The actor and comedian is the one example supported by a news report rather than a first-person account. An Associated Press report, carried by CBS News in August 2014, describes Williams as a notable fan. It quotes Blizzard lead game designer Ion Hazzikostas, who was in that role at the time: “We knew he was an avid ‘WoW’ player, which was awesome.”
The report appeared in the same month Williams died, so it is best read as a historical tribute-style account of his interest, not as evidence of anything more recent.

John Romero
Romero, a game developer, has described extensive WoW play in an interview that GamesRadar+ reported while citing PC Gamer. The reported quotes are “I have probably 3,000-plus hours in WoW,” and “I lived in that game every day for five years. Six hours usually, every day.”
This is a second-hand account of an attributed interview. The quotes are useful for past play, but they should be read as the reporting of a reporting chain, and they describe a period that ended years before this article was written.

How the four examples compare
The table below separates the examples by how their claims were made and what each one actually establishes.
| Person | Source type | What is established | Date of the evidence | Current play established? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Michele Morrow | Blizzard community profile reproducing her own statements | Long-term involvement in the player community, server-first achievements during Wrath of the Lich King, running guilds | Not stated in the profile material reviewed | No |
| Demetrious Johnson | Blizzard-published interview | Play starting around The Burning Crusade, on the Horde side, with a Blood Elf; later Arena play | 2018 | No |
| Robin Williams | Associated Press report, carried by CBS News; quote from Blizzard lead game designer Ion Hazzikostas | Described as an avid WoW player by Blizzard’s lead designer at the time | August 2014 | No |
| John Romero | Second-hand report of an interview, via GamesRadar+ citing PC Gamer | Roughly 3,000-plus hours of play and about six hours a day over five years, as reported | Interview date not stated in the report reviewed | No |
How to judge a celebrity WoW claim
Many articles and forum threads list celebrity players without showing where the claim came from. When you check one, work through these questions:

- Who is the speaker? A first-person statement is stronger evidence of personal play than a claim made by someone else about that person.
- Is the source independent of the person’s promotion? A celebrity appearing in a game advertisement, a promotional event, or a stream does not, by itself, show personal fandom.
- What period does it cover? Most of the examples above describe play from years ago, and a dated account should not be presented as a description of current habits.
- Does the quote trace to an original? Quotes that appear only in aggregated listicles or forum posts should be checked against the original interview or report before being repeated.
What this does and does not show
The four examples show that several well-known people have publicly talked about playing World of Warcraft, and that Blizzard has itself highlighted some of them. They do not show how many celebrities play the game, how many still do, or whether any of them remain active players now. Any broader claim about celebrity fans would need a source that surveys players or reports current play directly, and none of the material reviewed provides one.
If you want to go further, start with the primary Blizzard profile and interview, then the Associated Press report carried by CBS News, and treat the Romero quotes as a second-hand account of an interview.
