LeBlanc, known as the Deceiver, is a pale sorceress whom Riot Games’ official League of Legends biography presents as the matron of the Black Rose, a secretive order that operates in and beyond Noxus. Her true identity is deliberately left unclear. Arcane season two brings the Black Rose into Mel Medarda’s story, but the sources reviewed for this guide do not explicitly confirm that the sorceress Mel encounters is LeBlanc. The sections below separate what League lore establishes from what the show actually names.
Who LeBlanc is in League lore
Riot’s biography describes LeBlanc as a sorceress with an ancient, Noxian-linked history whose power is as much about identity as about magic. She can appear as many people at once, and the biography leaves open whether the LeBlanc of the present day is the same sorceress throughout or one of a succession of reflections. That ambiguity is the core of the character, and it is why most entries about her avoid a single fixed origin.
The biography’s own wording captures the idea:
“Matron of the Black Rose, LeBlanc’s identity is as intangible as the whispers that describe her, as ephemeral as the illusions that give her shape.”
That line comes from Riot Games’ Universe of League of Legends biography for LeBlanc. It is the best single summary of how Riot wants her understood.

The Black Rose
The Black Rose is an order that traces its roots to remnants of a power older than Noxus. According to the biography, it schemes through powerful people rather than openly seizing control, and it operates beyond Noxus as well as within it. LeBlanc is its matron, and nearly every major Black Rose story in the League biography runs through her.
The lore timeline: Mordekaiser, Darkwill and Swain
The biography’s chronology is easier to follow as a sequence of conflicts. The events below come from Riot’s League biography, not from Arcane.

Conflict with Mordekaiser
In the biography’s earliest episode, LeBlanc aids barbarian tribes against Mordekaiser, the Iron Revenant. Her goal is to neutralize the Immortal Bastion, the source of his power. The biography also says the order later worked to manipulate Noxian rulers, and that LeBlanc served as an adviser to foreign dignitaries while appearing in many nations at once.
Boram Darkwill’s rise and rule
The later political narrative centers on Boram Darkwill. LeBlanc is described as helping poison his mind while promising to extend his life, which gives the Black Rose direct influence over Noxian leadership.

Jericho Swain and the new adversary
The biography says LeBlanc manipulated Jericho Swain into exposing the Black Rose’s involvement. She then allowed herself to be executed along with conspirators, or so it seemed. Swain ultimately removed Darkwill and became Grand General. The biography presents him as a new adversary that LeBlanc could not easily corrupt, which is one of the story’s clearest turning points.
What Arcane season two shows
Netflix Tudum’s production feature “ARCANE Season Two Deep Dive on How It Was Made,” published November 25, 2024, describes Mel’s encounter with a Black Rose sorceress in episode 8 of season two. The feature says Mel later wears a new look associated with the mage magic she discovers. It also describes the Black Rose’s mental prison as an illusion that immobilizes Mel mentally rather than physically. The performer of the sorceress is named as Minnie Driver, but the feature does not name the character as LeBlanc.

The accurate way to put it is this: Arcane brings the Black Rose into Mel’s story, and League lore names LeBlanc as the order’s matron. The sources reviewed here do not establish that the on-screen sorceress is LeBlanc. Those sources date from late 2024, so check the show’s official channels for any later confirmation before treating the link as settled.

Riot’s Teamfight Tactics Into the Arcane overview lists LeBlanc as a five-cost Black Rose Sorcerer. The overview describes her as the woman who led Sion’s resurrection in that set. This is a playable game unit tied to that set’s storyline, and it should not be read as confirmation of who appears on screen in Arcane.
