Andor season 3 is not happening: Lucasfilm and Disney identified season 2 as the series’ second and final season. The clearest explanation is narrative, not a publicly documented cancellation. Creator Tony Gilroy shaped the story to reach the events of Rogue One, which already establish Cassian Andor’s endpoint.
Is Andor season 3 happening?
No. Disney described season 2 as the second and final season, and StarWars.com said the series had reached its end. The show was built as a story that leads into Rogue One, rather than as an open-ended series expected to continue beyond that film’s events.

That public record supports calling Andor a completed two-season story. It does not establish that Disney ordered a third season and then canceled it.
Why did Andor end after two seasons?
The story had a defined destination
Andor follows Cassian before Rogue One, whose events provide a known endpoint for his story. Season 2 bridges the years between the series’ earlier events and the film. Disney said the season comprises 12 episodes, arranged in four chapters of three episodes, and covers four years of story before leading toward Rogue One (The Walt Disney Company, April 22, 2025).

Gilroy said the limits helped the show
Gilroy connected the known ending to the series’ creative strength. In an interview with StarWars.com, he said, “the reason I think the show is good is because we’ve known where we’re going to end” (May 20, 2025). Disney quoted him describing the ending, structure, season 2’s boundaries and lead-up to Rogue One as a framework that made it possible for the show to “swing within that” (April 22, 2025).
The Television Academy’s interview about the finale likewise discussed the series signing off after a two-season run and Gilroy’s planned final image and themes (May 14, 2025). Together, these accounts describe a conclusion shaped around a destination, rather than an announced continuation that was later abandoned.

Was Andor canceled?
There is no public evidence in the cited official statements and interviews that a third season was commissioned and then canceled. Those sources confirm that season 2 is final and explain the creative endpoint; they do not disclose private commissioning, contract or budget negotiations. So “canceled” goes beyond what the available public record establishes.
Gilroy told the Associated Press, “We took no creative notes on this show,” and said he had never had as much freedom before, even on films where he had final cut (April 21, 2025). That comment speaks to his reported creative latitude; it is not evidence about the private business reasons for the series’ length.
