The clearest starting point is Rathergood’s own classic-content post, which lists “Hippo Girl” among older material brought back online. The page at the familiar /hippo/ address is not reliably the earlier version many people remember, and the evidence available does not confirm where that earlier version lives today.
Start with the official classic-content post
Rathergood’s post Classic Rathergood stuff! was published on November 3, 2015 and updated on February 22, 2024. It names “Hippo Girl” in a list of restored classic content. Use it as your entry point, because it is the most direct official record that the piece was kept or returned to the site.
The same post warns that some linked pages rely on Flash files, which current browsers no longer support. Listing a piece therefore does not guarantee that the animation will play. If the link opens but the animation is blank, the cause is most likely the browser, not a missing file.
Why the /hippo/ page may not be the one you remember
A February 6, 2004 discussion thread on AnandTech shows that the distinction between versions was already being made in the early 2000s. The original poster wanted a slower version with the lyrics printed on the page. A respondent pointed to http://www.rathergood.com/hippo/. The original poster replied that this was the new version, or at least the version without lyrics on the page, and another participant agreed it was probably the new one.

So if your memory includes slower pacing and on-screen words, the /hippo/ address is a poor match for that memory. That is the only version-level detail the thread supports, and it is a 2004 observation about a page as it then stood, not a current inventory of the site.
What is not established
- The evidence reviewed does not identify a confirmed alternate URL for the earlier lyric-text version.
- It does not establish where the older file was hosted, whether it was moved, or whether it survives on Rathergood’s servers.
- It does not show that any archived copy of the older version is playable today.
Treat any specific older address you find in forum posts or bookmarks as unverified until you open it and confirm the content matches the version you want.

A possible source of confusion: the music track
Amazon Music search results show a track titled “Hippo Girl” in a Rathergood Songs listing. This is a music release. It does not show that the animation is available as a download or physical product, and it should not be treated as a copy of the web piece.

- Open the official post at rathergood.com/2015/11/03/classic-rathergood-stuff/ and find the Hippo Girl entry.
- Follow the link. If the animation does not load, note the browser you are using, since the page warns that Flash content is no longer supported by current browsers.
- Compare any older address you have against the version you remember, checking for slower timing and whether lyrics appear on screen.
- If you need an older state of the site, look for archived copies of the page. Archived copies are not confirmed by the evidence reviewed, so check them before relying on them.
The official post confirms that Hippo Girl is part of Rathergood’s classic-content collection. Whether the original lyric-text version can still be reached is not established by the evidence reviewed, and the /hippo/ address should not be assumed to be it.
