The MDOC public offender-search page did not provide a person-specific profile for independent confirmation, so treat the facility as the location reported on that date rather than a guarantee of his present placement. Older coverage differs: Dexerto reported on August 20, 2025, that Thomas was at Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility and gave July 2062 as his earliest release date. The later report names Muskegon and specifies October 7, 2062. The difference is why the date attached to a prison-location report matters. [Dexerto, August 20, 2025]
How long is his prison sentence?
Thomas pleaded guilty in December 2023 to kidnapping, torture, and aggravated stalking. In 2024, he was sentenced to 40 to 60 years in prison. The criminal-sexual-conduct charges were dropped under the plea agreement, according to ABC News. [ABC News, August 19, 2025]

The 2062 and 2082 dates reported by Hindustan Times are respectively the earliest and maximum release dates attributed to MDOC. They are not the same thing as a guaranteed release date: the report gives a range, and does not establish that Thomas will be released on either date. [Hindustan Times, June 13, 2026]
What happened in the Samantha Stites case?
Thomas and Stites met through a Christian group while she was a Grand Valley State University student in 2011, ABC News reported. The stalking continued for more than a decade. ABC says Thomas used hidden GPS trackers and appeared at Stites’s workplace and activities.

What changed after the case?
Shortly before the kidnapping, Stites had sought an ex parte personal protection order, but the request was denied. ABC News reported that the case prompted a Michigan court-policy change requiring referees considering personal protection order applications to examine prior PPOs before making recommendations.
