John Candy’s children, Christopher (Chris) Candy and Jennifer Candy-Sullivan, have most recently been in the public eye for helping tell their father’s story in the documentary John Candy: I Like Me. They took part in the family-backed film and spoke about it around its 2025 release. Public reporting does not provide a complete account of their current jobs or private lives.

What are John Candy’s children doing now?

Chris and Jennifer participated in John Candy: I Like Me, directed by Colin Hanks and produced by Ryan Reynolds. The documentary opened at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025, with a Prime Video debut scheduled for October 10, 2025, according to the Associated Press. That release date is historical; it does not establish where the film is currently available to stream.

In an August 2026 interview with the Los Angeles Times, the siblings and their mother, Rosemary, discussed the family’s decision to take part and their collaboration with Hanks. This public documentary work is the clearest recent update about the siblings, but it should not be mistaken for a full account of their occupations or everyday lives.

Why did the family decide to tell John Candy’s story?

The family told the Los Angeles Times they had declined approaches for years. They were not ready, and they felt the story had already been told. They also objected to unauthorized approaches, including a potential biopic. The project began to take shape after Reynolds contacted them in 2019 about an anniversary video. Chris said the possibility of other films helped the family decide they wanted a chance to tell the story their way.

The family also wanted the documentary to be candid rather than simply celebratory. They sought people who had actually known John Candy and wanted the film to address his struggles, including unresolved grief over losing his father when he was young.

How do Chris and Jennifer describe their father’s legacy?

Jennifer’s memories of family life

In a November 2025 interview with America Magazine, Jennifer described family as central to her childhood: “Family was number one growing up….[H]e always tried to be there for everyone’s birthday…family was always very important.” She also said, “At home, he very much was the same person [as his roles].” Jennifer participated in the film as a co-executive producer and said archival material showed her aspects of her father’s resilience and vulnerability that surprised her.

Chris on grief and getting support

Speaking to the Associated Press in 2025, Chris reflected on what his father’s upbringing of them had left behind: “That would be through the way he raised us and also saying it’s OK to talk to someone if you have heavy feelings.” The AP described the siblings as navigating their father’s loss differently. Chris’s comment connects the documentary’s remembrance of John Candy to the family’s experience of grief and the value of seeking support.

What is known—and not known—about their lives today?

Recent public accounts establish that Chris Candy and Jennifer Candy-Sullivan are John Candy’s son and daughter and that both took part in telling his story through John Candy: I Like Me. They do not establish a comprehensive picture of either sibling’s current work, residence, relationships, or family life. Without reliable, current reporting on those details, it would be misleading to present them as known.
