Sarah had published a memoir and was attending college; Jack was reported to be studying music and keeping a low public profile. Those are dated reports, not confirmation of their circumstances in October 2026.
What was reported about Jack and Sarah in 2025
Ten years after Jason Corbett was killed in North Carolina, profiles published in 2025 described his children as adults living in Limerick with the family members who had raised them. Biography.com reported that Sarah was 18 and Jack was 20 at the time of its May 2025 profile. The Irish Examiner’s anniversary coverage also placed them in Limerick.
Sarah Corbett Lynch
Sarah published A Time for Truth: My Father Jason and My Search for Justice and Healing. The Irish Examiner described the memoir as her account of grief, the court process and recovery. Its 2025 coverage said she was attending college. The book offers Sarah’s own perspective; it should not be treated as a substitute for the court record or as a neutral account of every disputed issue in the case.
Jack Corbett Lynch
Biography.com reported that Jack was studying music in college and was a singer-songwriter. Sarah told the publication that he wanted the truth known but did not want to do interviews. His lower public profile is a personal choice, not evidence of his views or feelings about the case.

Who raised the children after Jason’s death?
Jason’s first wife, Margaret “Mags” Fitzpatrick, died in 2006. He later hired Molly Martens as an au pair; she married Jason in 2011. After Jason’s death in August 2015, a separate, contested custody proceeding placed Jack and Sarah with Jason’s sister Tracey and her husband David in Ireland. The North Carolina Supreme Court’s opinion records that placement.

In a 2025 Netflix Tudum account, directors Jessica Burgess and Jenny Popplewell said the children considered the court’s decision to grow up surrounded by Jason’s family in Ireland the best decision for them. That is the directors’ account of the siblings’ view, not a direct interview transcript published in the article.
How the criminal case concluded
Molly Martens Corbett and her father, Thomas Martens, said they acted in self-defense. A jury convicted both of second-degree murder in 2017. In 2021, the North Carolina Supreme Court ordered a new trial after finding prejudicial evidentiary error, including the exclusion of statements made by the children. The opinion discusses accounts that changed over time and disputes about their reliability and whether they were coerced. The ruling concerned trial fairness and evidence; it was not a finding that every disputed allegation was true.

In 2023, Molly pleaded no contest and Thomas pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter. The Associated Press reported that a Davidson County judge sentenced them to 51 to 74 months, with credit for time already served. They were released in June 2024. The pleas resolved the case without a second jury conviction for murder.
The children’s statements became part of the evidentiary dispute, but their accounts should not be reduced to a simple, uncontested version of what happened. The appellate opinion documents the legal questions around their statements; the defendants’ self-defense claims and the prosecution’s case were part of the contested proceedings.

What the documentary adds—and what it cannot settle
Netflix’s A Deadly American Marriage presents perspectives from both families. The film’s directors, Jessica Burgess and Jenny Popplewell, told Netflix Tudum that the case demonstrates how complex the American justice system can be. That is their commentary on the documentary, not a court finding.
For the siblings’ lives, the clearest public picture remains limited: Sarah has chosen to write and speak publicly, while Jack was reported to prefer privacy. Neither choice warrants assumptions about how they have processed their father’s death.
