My Hero Academia has finished in both of its main forms, but on different dates. The manga serialization ended in August 2024, and the main TV anime ended with its eighth and final season on December 13, 2025. A separate short anime special was scheduled to begin streaming on August 3, 2026. Which date applies depends on whether you mean the manga or the anime.
The manga: serialization ended in August 2024
The manga’s weekly run ended in August 2024. ORICON reported on June 24, 2024 that the final chapter would appear in the combined Weekly Shonen Jump issue released on August 5, 2024. That August 5 date is the issue reported for the final chapter at the time, not a confirmation pulled from a Shueisha issue listing. Shueisha’s official anime site later stated in its December 22, 2024 announcement that the manga serialization had concluded in August.
The collected run is a separate milestone. Volume 42 is the final collected volume, and the official anime site’s December 22, 2024 announcement says it was released on December 4, 2024. Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump series page lists volume 42 among the collected volumes, and the publisher’s comics listing presents it with print and digital purchase options.
The main TV anime: FINAL SEASON ended December 13, 2025
The eighth season was branded FINAL SEASON. The official anime site described it in Japanese as 通算8期目であり最終章となる, roughly “the eighth season overall and the final chapter.” The site speaks as an institution and names no individual speaker.

The schedule ran in three steps:
- Autumn 2025 was the announced window. The December 22, 2024 announcement said the eighth and final season would air in autumn 2025.
- The Japanese broadcast start was set for October 4, 2025. The official anime site’s July 15, 2025 post gave this date and named the Yomiuri TV and Nippon TV network.
- The finale aired December 13, 2025. The official anime site’s December 12, 2025 notice confirmed the final episode would air that day. It is episode 11 of FINAL SEASON and overall episode 170.
The official episode archive lists episode 168 as airing on November 29, 2025, which gives a dated checkpoint for the last stretch of the finale arc.
The later special: “I am a hero too”
On May 2, 2026, the official anime site announced an adaptation of Kohei Horikoshi’s short manga “I am a hero too,” which was included in the Ultra Age fan book. The announcement gave a streaming start of August 3, 2026.
This is a single short adaptation placed after the main finale. It is not a new season, and it does not change the manga’s end date or the main TV finale date. The scheduled start falls before the current date of this article, and the sources reviewed do not confirm its current availability or regional catalog status.

Which answer fits your question
- “Did the story end?” Yes. The manga ended in August 2024.
- “Did the anime end?” Yes. The main TV series ended on December 13, 2025 with FINAL SEASON.
- “Is there more?” The short special is the only post-finale project covered by these sources. They do not announce a further main-series season, but they do not address the wider franchise, so new announcements may have appeared since.
