Creators set their clip to “Mean” by $not and Flo Milli, frame their face and waist first, then turn or shift the camera to show their rear as the matching lyric plays. Know Your Meme traces early viral examples to January 2021, and Distractify’s November 22, 2023 explainer reports that the trend resurfaced that year.
What the trend looks like
The format is a short, body-focused pose sequence timed to a single lyric. Two secondary sources describe the same basic pattern, so it is reasonably clear what the trend is even though its creator is not.
- Open on the face. The creator sets the frame so the face is visible, often with a pose or expression.
- Move to the waist. The camera or body shifts to highlight the waist.
- Turn to the rear. On the lyric, the creator turns or the camera pans so the rear is shown.
Nothing in the sources requires a prop, costume, or special device. Phone filming is enough.
The song and the lyric
The sound is “Mean” by $not and Flo Milli. The trend takes its name from a lyric in that track, which is why the sound is the easiest way to find the original format. Searching by the song title on TikTok will surface many versions, but the sources do not establish which uploads are the earliest or most representative.

Where it came from
The origin is unsettled. Know Your Meme says the exact original creator is unclear and points to early viral examples rather than a single founder of the trend.
Early examples in January 2021
Know Your Meme names two early videos. One was posted on January 2, 2021 by @_halle.c00l.cat and is described as one of the earliest viral examples. The other is a video by @_kieranicolee posted January 3, 2021, identified as an early viral example. These accounts show early participation. They do not establish who started the format, and a reader should not treat either account as a definitive attribution.

The 2023 resurfacing
Distractify’s explainer, published November 22, 2023, dates the trend to 2021 and says it came back in 2023. That article describes the song and body-focused format as the core of the trend. It is a 2023 description, so it does not tell you whether the trend is active on TikTok today.
Variations
Distractify describes users adapting the lyric and format. Some versions change the wording, and some present a more inclusive, body-positive take on the same pose sequence. The sources do not list a standard set of variations or a count of how many exist.

Other uses of the phrase “big bank”
Some search results use “big bank challenge” for money displays, financial-literacy exercises, or claims about bank-system exploits. The trend described by Know Your Meme and Distractify is the dance-style video paired with “Mean.” The other usages are not supported by the reliable sources on this trend, so do not assume they refer to the same thing.
