In the story, the second season of The Last of Us is set mainly in Jackson, Wyoming, and Seattle, Washington. The show was filmed largely in British Columbia. Squamish built the Jackson set, while Vancouver, Nanaimo, and nearby places stood in for Seattle and the wilderness around it. The fictional settings and the real filming locations are different things, and this guide keeps them separate.
The story setting: Jackson and Seattle
Season 2 follows the story of the second video game. Co-creator Neil Druckmann has said that much of that story takes place in Seattle, and Jackson, the settlement in Wyoming, is the other main setting. Anyone searching for where the story happens should look at those two places. Neither is a real-world shooting location.
Where the show was actually filmed
Production moved north to Vancouver. Druckmann explained the choice in an interview with Sky: “Without getting into spoilers: Much of the second-game story takes place in Seattle. So we moved production to Vancouver because it doubled so well for Seattle and afforded us certain production opportunities to get different looks that were all within driving or short flying distance.”
The production was therefore a mix of city streets, parks, transit, and built sets, spread across the Vancouver area and Vancouver Island. The Sky interview is the source for the production rationale; the episode-level locations below come from Destination Vancouver’s guide.

Jackson: Squamish and New Westminster
- The Jackson set: The community was custom-built in Squamish. Druckmann said the crew “had to find a location where we could build almost all of Jackson.”
- The community meeting hall: New Westminster Town Hall appeared as the Jackson meeting hall.
- Visiting: Destination Vancouver states that the reconstructed Jackson set cannot be visited. Readers who want Jackson-style scenery should look at the natural landscapes around Squamish rather than the set itself.
Seattle: a composite of British Columbia locations
Seattle was not filmed as a single place. Vancouver-area streets and buildings, Nanaimo streets, transit cars, parks, and constructed sets each stood in for different parts of the city. Because of this, describing the production as “filmed in Seattle” would be inaccurate, even though the story is set there.

The same guide also lists the Orpheum Theatre, Chinatown, Mount Seymour, Gastown, Harbour Green Park, and the Vancouver Aquarium as filming places. It gives no episode or scene detail for these.
This is a representative selection, not a complete list of every location or set. The production designer described the season as a combination of real locations and built sets.

Visiting the locations
- Public streets, parks, and trails can generally be visited, but access and street closures can change, so check current conditions before you go.
- Built sets such as Jackson are not open to the public, as noted above.
- Scenes may look different in person. Sets were dressed for the show, and some sites were altered during filming, so the view may not match what appears on screen.
How many locations were used?
Production designer Don Macaulay told Condé Nast Traveler in an interview published May 25, 2025, that the season used “Probably 60 or 70” locations. That figure is his approximate estimate, not an official or audited total, and it does not separate real locations from built sets.
The figure fits Macaulay’s broader point that the season combined many real places with constructed sets, which is why there is no single definitive number.
