Two specific episodes are reported for him below, but those episode titles come from a fan-maintained index, not from an official SEGA episode guide, so they should be read as reported rather than officially confirmed.
The show: Sonic Boom
Sonic Boom is a television animation series. SEGA’s announcement of the show, dated June 23, 2017, describes it as a 3D CG TV animation series and states that its first season had 52 episodes. That figure applies to the first season only and says nothing about how many episodes Metal Sonic appears in.
The same announcement concerned a Japanese-language dub release on Netflix. That is historical distribution information. It does not tell you where the show can be watched in October 2026, and streaming availability in your region should be checked directly before you search for it.

- Kids will love playing with these authentic figures from the Sonic the Hedgehog video games!
- Each figure has multiple points of articulation including the arms, legs and head
- Includes accessory piece to help build out the Sonic world
- “It Wasn’t Me, It Was the One-Armed Hedgehog”
- “Eggman: The Video Game Part 2: The End of the World”
Because this index is maintained by fans, it is secondary evidence. It is useful for finding the right episodes to check, but it is not an official episode guide and should be cited as such.
How much weight each source carries
Several SEGA pages mention Metal Sonic, but they answer different questions. The table separates what each one establishes from what it leaves open.
| Source | What it establishes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| SEGA’s Metal Sonic character profile | Describes him as a robot made by Dr. Eggman to oppose Sonic, a high-performance robot and a formidable rival; covers selected game appearances | Does not confirm any television episode appearance |
| SEGA’s Sonic Boom announcement (June 23, 2017) | Sonic Boom is a 3D CG TV animation series; first season had 52 episodes; concerned a Japanese-language Netflix dub release | Does not identify Metal Sonic’s episodes; current streaming availability is not stated |
| Sonic Wiki Zone (Fandom) Metal Sonic page for Sonic Boom | Lists the two episode titles above as Metal Sonic appearances | Not an official SEGA source; not verified against the episodes by SEGA |
| SEGA’s Sonic Origins overview | States that Metal Sonic debuted in Sonic CD, a game | Does not establish any television appearance |
| SEGA’s Sonic Prime announcement (December 13, 2022) | Describes the show’s Netflix launch and its planned episode count | Does not confirm a Metal Sonic appearance in any show; absence from it is not evidence either way |
Metal Sonic’s game debut is a separate answer
If you remember Metal Sonic from a game rather than a cartoon, the answer is different. SEGA’s Sonic Origins overview states that Metal Sonic debuted in Sonic CD. That is a game debut, and it does not show that he appeared on television first or at all. The television answer rests only on the Sonic Boom episode reports above.
How to check the episodes yourself
- Open the fan-maintained Sonic Wiki Zone Metal Sonic page and note the two episode titles listed for Sonic Boom.
- Search your streaming service or the service you use for the show for each title, using the exact wording above. Confirm that the episode appears under that name, since episode titles can vary between regional releases and dubs.
- If the title is not available on your service, check whether a physical or digital release is offered in your region. Current availability was not verified for this article.
- Watch for Metal Sonic in the episode itself. If he is not there, the fan index may have listed a different episode or a different entry, and the show’s official episode listing for your region is the better reference.
Matching a remembered scene to an episode is the most reliable way to confirm the appearance, because it does not depend on any single index being correct.
