Billy Evans, who is publicly identified as Elizabeth Holmes’s partner and the father of their two children, is reported to have founded Haemanthus, an early-stage diagnostics startup focused on blood and other biological-sample testing. STAT reported this in May 2025. Public reporting does not establish that the company has launched a product or that its proposed tests have been clinically validated. Holmes remains incarcerated, and ABC News reported in September 2026 a scheduled transfer to a Texas halfway house in August 2027.

What Evans is reported to be doing professionally

The most specific reporting on Evans’s current work comes from STAT, which said in May 2025 that he had formed Haemanthus, a blood-testing startup. Coverage describes the company as a proposed diagnostics business. That distinction matters: a company description tells you what its founders intend to build, not what the company has demonstrated.

What the reporting says about Haemanthus

  • Founder: Billy Evans, according to STAT (May 2025).
  • Stage: Described as early-stage.
  • Focus: Blood and other biological-sample testing.
  • Status of its tests: Presented as proposed capabilities, not as finished or validated products.

Separating company plans from established evidence

Coverage of early diagnostics companies often blends what a startup hopes to offer with what regulators, clinicians or customers have confirmed. The table below sorts the Haemanthus claims by how well the available reporting supports them.

Question What the available reporting shows Status
Does Evans have a role at Haemanthus? STAT reports he formed the company (May 2025). Reported
What does the company aim to test? Blood and other biological samples. Reported plan
Is a finished test on the market? Not established in the reporting reviewed. Not established
Have the tests been clinically validated? Not established in the reporting reviewed. Not established
Does the company have regulatory clearance? Not stated in the available reporting. Not stated
Who currently works at the company, and what is Evans’s day-to-day role? Not stated in the available reporting. Not stated

Readers should treat any capability attributed to Haemanthus as a company plan or a reported claim. Nothing in the available coverage turns those plans into established medical fact.

Holmes’s current status

ABC News reported in September 2026 that Holmes remains incarcerated and is scheduled for transfer to a Texas halfway house in August 2027. That is a reported target date, and such dates can change. The U.S. Department of Justice’s case page is the official source for the federal case itself.

Evans’s public role around the documentary

The Daily Beast describes Evans as Holmes’s partner and the father of their two children. Its October 2026 report links him to You Can See Everything, a documentary that follows the couple in the weeks before Holmes reported to prison. The reporting does not describe his day-to-day life beyond that project, so the film is the clearest public thread connecting him to Holmes’s current situation.

What the film’s participants said

The same report quotes director Lance Oppenheim saying, in reference to Holmes and Evans, “Neither of them have seen the film.”

It also quotes Nathan Fielder: “Communication broke down basically, and it was in that state for a little bit.” Fielder was discussing communication with Evans around the documentary, not the company or Holmes’s legal status.

What the public record does not answer

  • Marital status: Current reporting uses “partner.” This article follows that wording because marriage has not been independently confirmed here.
  • Holmes’s role in Haemanthus: No reporting reviewed here connects her to the company. Do not assume she runs it or is involved in its work.
  • Performance figures: No verified statistic on Haemanthus’s diagnostic accuracy, clinical performance or reach has been published. Any funding amount or intended capability should be read as a plan, not a measured result.

Further background

The Associated Press covers Holmes’s case in relation to John Carreyrou’s book Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup. It is useful background on Theranos, but it does not address Evans’s current work, so it is not needed to answer the question of what he is doing now.
